I have a 99 X1, took off all that and put on a Forcewinder without doing anything to the ECM.

You can change intake and exhaust, then go for a "bike warmed up" ride of 5-7 miles at a steady 3200 rpm, the bike will take care of the rest.

Do an interwebs search for "ecmspy megalog tuning" & you'll learn everything you need to know.

What Essmjay is talking about will put the ecm into "closed loop learn" mode which will change what's called the AFV. That change is then applied when the bike is running in "open loop" mode. To my understanding, this is less a correction for intake/exhaust modifications & more applicable to altitude & air densities.

Here is a site that has good info about how DDFI works: http://buelltuning.free.fr/injang.htm

I have to respectfully disagree.. It will try and compensate for running lean by bumping up the AFV. Mine was at 137 percent with an intake and exhaust and ran like a turd. With the race map the AFV has not been above 103.

It ran fine on stock maps with just an intake but I have no idea what the AFV was. (didnt have ECMspy prior to putting on my exhaust.)

Thats ok, I don't claim to be an expert. I did run my '99 S3 for years before ecmspy was available and always had no problem with the bike learning to run properly with changes. I recently changed back from a supertrap to the stock exhaust, and after a closed loop ride it runs fine. So I would suggest that while the time to get ecmspy set up and working is passing, it wouldn't hurt to do a closed loop run.
