I have a 2001 x1, recently I had I minor electrical problem with the head light due to a wire that pinched off at the goose neck were all the wires run simple cut and solder solved the problem . The issue I am having now is the bike likes to act like I flipped the cut off switch the, other day I was in second gear goin 60mph all the sudden the bike shut down and the fuel pump would cycle, and later that day it died on me the same way it died when I was rolling except I was at a dead stop. The only way I could take off is by dragging out the clutch and giving it a bunch of gas, I have done a bunch of troubleshooting and have come up with nothing. If you have any ideas on what the problem may be, any solutions to the problem? Thanks |

Try bypass the clutch safety switch and the kick stand switch. My xb did a similar thing. Matt |

* The side-stand safety switch or the connector for it cause this problem 90% of the time. Pull the connector apart several times to clean it. Many riders just put a jumper wire across the connections in the connector. * There is another safety switch on the clutch lever. Very few problems reported for this. * Make sure your tank vent hose is not crimped. Crimping will cause a vacuum in the tank and starve the engine. Pop off the gas cap when it happens to listen for rushing air. * There is a neutral safety switch in the transmission. * Check your fuses. Pull then several times to clean the contacts. * If the bike has been in the weather, check connector to the fuses and all the above safety switches. * Try wiggling the key while it is running. May be a bad switch. Check grounds first, battery, swingarm block and the main harness ground underneath left rear corner of the fuel tank inside the frame tube. |

Mine did that from the kickstand switch. They suck. Clip wires, solder wires, cover in shrinktube. Actually, I make that mistake ALL the time! Let me try again: Clip wires, INSTALL SHRINK TUBING, solder. I can't even tell you how many times I have "fixed" something only to realise I still have the @#%@ shrink tubing in my hand. |
