i picked up this 99 cyclone last week, been driving around and have a question about my air filter setup PO put a drop in K&N filter and a carbon fiber filter box thing there is another breather underneath the filter which seems like its soaked in oil right now and i can see where oil is dripping on the right side cover after riding around for a while. does anyone know if this is routed properly? I don't have a service manual or parts manual yet waiting for them to come in the mail. Just realized the damn thing puked all over the back of my right leg as well going to take a closer look at it tomorrow when I get home. Tail section under the seat was glazed in oil |

Looks like a Buell carbon fiber race intake with K&N filter. A pretty good set up in my opinion and I have one on my M2. Breather lines look to be run to a smaller filter and it is getting saturated and then lubing your bike (and leg) which is not good. Get a catch can and run the lines to it. I allowed mine to vent to the ground for awhile but it was still a mess. Pegasus Racing (google them) sells a neat little catch can that is pretty cheap, easy to fit and you just drain it as needed. My M2 doesn't like to be maintained at the full oil level mark and will puke oil until it is near the bottom of the stick. Once there it is happy and puking is minimal. Also higher rpm running does increase the head breathing and puking in many bikes. All in all, it is a pretty easy and cheap fix. Some are more creative than me and just drain it to a drink can, etc. |

i was thinking of just getting longer lines and running them down to the bottom of the bike? thats how all of my hoses were routed on my yzf600r but it wasn't so temperamental with the oil. i've been reading up about the XB rockers update, would that alleviate some of the problem as well? seems like a pretty good upgrade for $100 |

I put the XB rocker box covers on and didn't really notice any decrease in sludge. It is mostly water vapor mixed with a bit of oil and I always seemed to have enough to be messy but no real measurable amount. Others have done the switch and reported a dramatic improvement. I do believe that it is a better system of venting and worth the cost even without a measurable improvement. My old Triumph Bonneville has the breather pipe vented to the ground and is pretty much always dry. The v-twin HD motor seems more prone to exhaling! I'm tired of the mess and going to a catch can. |

Overfilling the oil? Check when hot, doesn't matter so much whether bike is upright on on side stand, just do it the same way everytime. My oil level just barely hits the stick, I mean about 1mm of oil shows on the dipstick. But it stays there. Overfill, and the excess all comes out the breathers. A Catch Can helps a lot, easy and free to make. Use an empty aluminum can, or an empty mustard jar, anything will do, at first. When you get the oil level to the 'Happy Place', you can make the Catch Can perhaps more visually interesting. |

I've only had the bike for a week so haven't even looked it. I know when I first bought the guy showed me the oil level and it was in the middle if I can remember right so I guess I'll just be dropping oil for a little bit until it gets lower. I will check it the next time I ride just not 100% sure. Here is my temporary fix, haven't rode it yet second picture is below the air filter, i replaced the little breather filter with the T which connected them and runs it out to the other hose out the back |

So you'll get a lot more oil in the "blow by" when it runs out the breathers on the head. Running through the top (XB) will reduce it a bit. There are options for improving that without replacing the rocker covers. Remove the umbrella valves and drill the drain hole a step larger if I remember the mod right, it's a long way back in the knowledge vault. The velcro was to help keep the top cover on your Bartels aircleaner. It would appear that yours fell off prior to you taking ownership... presumably while traveling on the freeway at speed, and was run over by following traffic... just like all the other Bartel intake covers that died a similar death Replacement covers are, um, difficult to acquire. Cheap catch cans are easy to acquire however, as Jayvee has described. Pegasus auto racing sells a pretty nice can for $20 or so as well. |

If it pucked down the back of the bike, you might want to look into the rear rocker gaskets as well. Mine would do that on long highway runs until i replaced the gaskets |

hi i just bought a 2000 m2 cyclone and started pukeing oil out the breather tubes and the primary tube to so was told the oil level maybe to high but then i pulled seat off checked it it was fine so i was going to change oil started bike up letting it warm up then all the sudden the oil cap shot off the oil tank and the tank was full of oil so can some please tell me what is wrong with it i dont have a manual |

Check the oil level when the the bike is warmed up, not cold. If someone filled to the full line on the stick when cold then it is likely too high and is self adjusting! Clean it up,take it for a ride and then check the level. Just touching the bottom on the stick is my M2's happy place. |

how much oil does it take when doing an oil change to get to the bottom of the stick vs the middle vs the top? i'm going to assume the service manual list the oil quantity for being completely full instead of at the bottom of the dipstick? |

I use the larger size oil filter for a dyna. With that filter I add two quarts and then check it. |
