Hey everyone! my name is josef, i´m a new member here from austria. bought a buell 2000 M2 about 2 years ago and i´m very happy with it. the bike already had some goodies installed and since this picture it has only changed a little bit, now it looks like this: Hey everyone! my name is josef, i´m a new member here from austria. bought a buell 2000 M2 about 2 years ago and i´m very happy with it. when i first looked at the bike, it was leaking oil between the engine cases. i asked a good friend of mine, who works as a mechanic at a harley dealership about it, and he told me it would be about 1000euros to fix in the shop. but he would do it for me and i just had to pay the parts. so, i talked to the seller about the serious problem about the leaking oil, and got it for a realy good price. now, almost 2 years later, we started to finaly fix the problem. and since we´re at it, giving the bike a new look. that means painting/powdercoating most of the eingine black, swingarm, forks and so on. thats where we are now, the bike in bits and pieces out in my garage. the engine is apart, and that brings me to some questions. - the pisons show some signs of wear, nothing bad, but since we´re at it, i will get some new ones. now, what pistons would be a good combination to the existing "tuning" measures almost forgot, here´s what´s already on the bike: - hsr 42 carb - full buell racing kit (ignition, header, pipe) - hypercharger air filter (mainly for the looks) i was thinknig about a forged high comp piston? 10.5:1? which pistons do work? the cylinders will get honed (by my friend at his working place...after hour... - the head: we will do a valve job, nothing dramatic, i´ve heard that the t-strom heads are already pretty good? - cams: i don´t know if my buell has the x1 cams or the standart ones. how can i determine what i have? i guess i could find a cheap set of used x1 cams at my buddy´s dealership... - everything will be checked, new gaskets of course, my buddy is a pro, so he knows what to look for, but anything we should have a look at? thank you everyone, reading here has been a pleasure, and i hope i can give something back by covering our rebuild (more pics to come!!!) p.s.: the bike is a blast! no, not a buell blast, its an m2, but its a blast to ride!!!! |

My engine is all stock, but as far as pistons go, these are the best looking ones I've seen. You can read up about pistons on the Wiseco site, there's lot's of makers: hammerperf.com/xltopend.shtml#Sledge Hammer Pistons Have you talked to the guys at V-Twin in Nederland? They could get you on the right track. |

The M2 cams are stock , not X1 cams . Keep showing the progress . |

To clarify a little further the M2 uses the same cams as the Sportster, so stock Sporty cams. X1 cams are something more like the HD screaming eagle performance sportster cams, which are also something like the Andrews N4 grind(?? is that the right number Andrews cam??). I've not paid too much attention to cam discussions because I love the stump pulling power and torque of the stock cams. |

Your cams are the same as the ones in an X1,from 1999 we in Europe got M2s with the same cams as X1s,in the US they didn't. |

thanks for the answers. i thought that i heard somewhere that european m2`s have the x1 cams, now i know! as far as progress, i started to clean all the pieces, but i´ve been busy with work lately (planting corn) so progress is slow. tomorrow we will take the last few bits of the engine apart and decide how it will be painted. most of the things will become powder coated black, but i don´t know about the cylinders and the header pipes. what would be the best technique to make them black? ceramic coating? as far as pistons go, i think i will stay either stock or order wiseco pistons. about wiseco, what wiseco piston would work? do i have to look at buell (can´t find a m2 in the list) or would a sportster 1200 piston work? the one with the 10.5:1 compression ratio? cheers josef |

Well with the X1 cams in your bike the only difference in your motor and those of the S3 & X1's would be the fuel injection. So if they list a piston for either of those bikes you should be fine. |

I don't think you can use sportster pistons with thunderstorm heads. |

Hugie is correct. The squish angles are different. Your bike has 15°, I believe Sportsters are 0°, but don't quote me on that. Anyone else remember something about the Blast having a squish on the head that didn't match the piston? I know that's not really related to this M2 question. Hmm, if only I could find what I want with the search function.. |

european models 98 and up came with S1WL cams. Race kits are very hard to find, just got a spare (slightly damaged)race header and a muffler in my garage. Look at the nrhs site for parts! I've got mine set up withe their stage 2 heads hsr 42 SE536 and a full race kit |
