IMHO, the XR1200X is HARLEY-DAVIDSON replacement for the BUELL M2 ... "BUT" the M2 handling is not there unless you give the XR1200X suspension a good tuning !!! |

The XR 1200 is a pretty bike, at least in black. However, I read somewhere that the XR 1200 weighs around 550 lbs. Even if it was as good as the M2 in every other way (it isn't), that much extra weight is a severe handicap. I was working a corner at PIR last year where an AMA pro rider crashed his XR 1200 and I had to push it off the track to the berm. That thing weighs enough to give new meaning to the term "hog". That was the day I took it off my list of bikes for future consideration. Also, for the price of an XR 1200 you could buy a very nice M2 and have enough cash left over to pay for insurance, fuel, oil, belts, batteries, and tires for a very, very long time. Erik BUELLdesigned all his creations with ROAD RACING in mind so they were much lighter than any SPORTSTER ... "BUT" if you wanted to RIDE ENDURS(off road)all you have to do on a SPORTSTER is put on OFF ROAD TIRES ... A BUELL would never make it OFF ROAD !!! (Message edited by buellistic on April 20, 2012) |

There isn't any thing wrong with a XR1200 that a chrome molly frame wouldn't fix. |

If anyone has a sportster, and wants to race off road for pink slips, sign here... . We will do a 10 mile single track of my choosing. I'm bringing the KDX though. And while I wouldn't do it voluntarily, I'm pretty sure the Uly would do far better off road than a Sportster (with it's awful seating position and limited ground clearance). That being said, either would be a ridiculous choice for real off road, and either would do fine for gravel or groomed dirt. |

As I posted on a different thread , The young man I got my M2 from , sold it to buy an XR . Three years later , he called and asked if I would sell it back to him . SORRY , I aint never selling my M2 . In his word , not mine , the M2 is more comfortable , handles better and has more HP . I may ride his XR , as we are friends ,Other than that , have no desire . |

I would (and did) choose the M2. I sold my first 2002 M2 in 2005, but never lost the itch to ride. So in 2010, I purchased my 2nd 2002 M2, after testing both the XR1200X and the 2006 V-Rod VRSCR (The one with the mid mount foot pegs.) All three bikes are good. While I love the V-Rod engine, that bike was over 600 lbs. (If I toured more, I may have chosen that bike.) The XR1200X looks good and is fun, but weighs over 500 lbs, as one person already listed. The extra HP (over the M2)is negated by the extra weight. My decision ultimately came down to value; The 2002 M2 was as much fun as the other two, at around half the price. |
