This weekend my penske blew a seal and when inspecting damage, I noticed my belt has some loose teeth! Q: should I break loose my iso bolts before putting jack stands under pegs? Should I replace rear or front pulleys? M2 has 60k. I'm going to remove shock to send to race tech and am going to replace belt while waiting on shock rebuild! | ||

Many are using the updated 04' XB belt instead of the one the M2 calls for. This new belt has Kevlar and is supposed to be stronger but don't bend it sharply, it cannot tolerate that. I got mine for Al at American Sport Bike. So far so good. I didn't break my iso bolts till after I had it on the stands under the pegs. I didn't have any issues that way. I use a front wheel chock and it is really quite stable. If you have large chunks of plating missing from the back pulley you want to replace it. Also, I'm told, if the belt ever jumps a tooth then it's only happening because the rear pulley is worn out and needs to be replaced. Mine is worn and needs to be replace as I get a belt jump every once in while. Always when it's cold like at the beginning of a ride. My OEM belt went at 36k miles, and rear pulley should have been replaced. I'm told the wear on the back pulley will also have to do with if the belt was being run at the too tight factory service spec, and for how long. I think mine was run too tight for about 9 to 14k miles before I got it. The front OEM pulley is tough and should last; however, some of the light weight after market pulleys are said to wear in short time intervals. |
