Just wondering if anyone has put on a performance exhaust like an akrporovic pipe or terminogini pipe on a Buell. Have a feeling it would sound similar to that of a ducati but wondering if it would impact performance. Have a race ecm and forcewinder on now and a custombaffled pipe with Vance and hines headers. Any ideas or opinions would be awesome! Thanks
Dan

The V&H do not have the deepest rumble of the pipes out there. I'm not aware of either of those aftermarket companies ever offering pipes for Buell.

Force, D&D, SuperTrapp, Buell Pro-series, Borla, White Brothers, Wileyco and a couple others I can't remember, maybe Jardin.

The Borla slip-on (vs their full system) has had the deepest, richest sound I've ever heard from a Buell pipe - I love that muffler. Force and D&D are loudest in that order.

I like the sound I've got from my Supertrapp with 19 disks in it. It has a deeper timbre with a bit more volume than the V&H... but weighs easily twice as much. They polish just as nicely as the stock Buell SS header pipes and are very robust.

Buells have a different lope than a Duc, putting various pipes on won't match their sound because they sound different. It's mostly due to engine config.

Polished Buell headers up top and the Supertrapp body and end cap still wrapped in plastic at the bottom.

What would your opinion be on getting a cheap two brothers exhaust or something off craigslist and trying to mount that? I realize the pipe size, mounts etc would have to be made but would that be an option? I guess my main question is if a pipe isn't specifically made for a x1 Buell, could it work anyway?

Just find something to match your 2 1/2" collector and you'll be alright. I know from a reliable source that screen door springs with large washers will do the trick for a rear hanger.

I didn't like the White Bro's on my bike because the out let left me gagging on my own exhaust at stop lights and made a mess of the underside of my bike. kinda cooked my left foot too, on the interstate. Made good - usable power and sounded nice though, had a decent review on the Buell specific pipe in the spring 2001 Battle2Win magazine.

Could prolly get a semi-decent muffler shop to make an adapter from your stock collector to the acquired pipe, shouldn't cost you much on a slow day.

The pipes you mention, did you mean 'slip-ons'? There's not complete pipes (including headers) available from them for Buells. I doubt if even slip-ons are.

To replace the Buell muffler with any comparably-sized muffler should be possible, with the proviso that mounts would have to be improvised.

Single-fire ignition makes it sound a little more like a Ducati, but still not the same...

Except you cannot change X-1 ignition, and it maybe single fire already, just can't remember if FI bikes were.

Yes. F.I. bikes have single fire ignition.

Each coil is actually two coils in one unit.

Ya I was thinking a slip on. The pipe on it now is a custom made straight pipe that's custom baffled. I am wanting to put and actual pipe on it that is a little different from most buells so I was thinking a crotch rocket slip on. Getting the mounts I feel would be the easy part I just didn't know if it would affect the engine and if the race ecm would agree with it.

I'll put up some photos of my bike now and what my homemade exhaust looks like. Hopefully going to buy a cheap exhaust off craigslist and try and rig something up. Will be a good Saturday afternoon job. Thanks for all the info. Do I need to be worried about putting a rocket exhaust with the single fire ignition? Will my race ecm agree with it?

Be mindful of the mounting of whatever you do, cracked headers and broken studs are no fun...

I guess no "need to be worried" but on the other hand, anything fabbed up (especially on the basis of cost) is unlikely to match the optimization done by engineering the stock exhaust (pressure waves, reversion, scavenging, sound waves, and a lot of other stuff I don't know anything about...) I doubt the 'bombs' provide enough (or any) information about their internal volume, shape, and throughput capability for you to consider matching the exhaust to the ignition. Just about any muffler will do the muffle part, but surprising if it happened to be an optimum configuration for performance as well.
