There was a size change from a 2" to a 2 1/2" but not sure of the the year. I have a 00M2 that is 2 1/2" Sorry.. You have to dig a little to find the information. dont know off hand.   Tony302 Posted on Wednesday, April 04, 2012 - 06:00 pm:        Yes the size changed in 99 along with the design of the header..i been finding a bunch of stuff its just this deal with the ssr2 muffler is good but it's for a 96-98 ss1 lightning I know the collector is a 2in what I do not know if that muffler would fit since I been told some lightning headers were design diferent from the m2 or where they the same..   Jayvee Posted on Wednesday, April 04, 2012 - 11:59 pm:        For M2s the change was 1999. Prior was 2", and 1999 and later is 2.5". As far as the other models, not so sure, there are a couple 'histories' online that would note these kinds of changes and when, but don't have the links handy.   Littlebuggles Posted on Friday, April 13, 2012 - 12:19 pm:        The 98 S1W also ran a 2.5" collector, so don't buy a White Lightning muffler.   Tony302 Posted on Friday, April 13, 2012 - 02:05 pm:        Well the box said 96-98 ss1 lightning it had a 2in collector,brand new wrapped up in the box.I got it on the m2 now it fit perfect.i got lucky i been looking for a performance muffler since November when i got the bike..
