I recently came a proud owner of a very nice 96 s1 lightning. I'm in the process of giving her some upgrades. I been looking at a few upgrades witch include. Mikuni 42 Carb, Vance & Hines exhaust and a screaming eagle intake. Besides those upgrades should I consider anything with the internals or electrical to really wake the bike up. All info is greatly appreciated. On a side note the bike has 15,000 miles should I consider replacing the clutch. Everything seems to work smoothly so far. |

Stock Buell ignition parts (if in good condition) are totally fine for a stock or slightly modified engine. Many people like the CV carb with a bit of tweaking and others love the mikuni. Your choice. I still run the CV but I've considered the switch. Buells came fitted with pretty decent intake and exhausts. Many of us change things but no big gains there, unlike some of the HD factory set ups. If you could upgrade to a 2.5" system like the S1W had, that would be helpful, but not required. Head work and cams matched to your driving style are really the only thing worth opening it up for in my opinion and that isn't cheap. If everything is working well, just make sure the consumables are in good condition and drive it for awhile. If you want to spend a few sheckles on it then driver comforts like a good seat, excellent tires, etc are always money well spent and will help you enjoy your new ride. |
