The glaciers receded and the sun came out and warmed things up here in east coast Canada just enough for me to get in my first ride of the year. I only went out for about about an hour, and had to take it relatively easy with the sandy pavement still so wet from melting snow. I had also just put on a brand new (still slippery) front tire...but I had to try out my new bars, a set of "Jim Odom" pattern flat track racing bars that I bought a couple of years ago at A+A Racing in Redwood City, Ca. I tried them on this bike before and didn't like them, but this time I added one inch bar risers and now they feel great, a perfect fit for me (and for Jim, apparently). I didn't try any slides yet though. Its been months since I was on this bike ('98 S1 with race kit) and I forgot a few things, like the vibration.I almost couldn't focus my eyes for the first five minutes. But I got used to it after that...and its LOUD. What was strange though, was that parked right next to the Buell in my garage is a 2011 Triumph Speed Triple 1050, supposedly my daily ride, and I took the Buell out instead. Maybe I just didn't want to get the Triumph dirty....yeah ....thats it....Anyway, its great to be back on a bike. There is nothing like the first spring ride, no matter how short...of course its supposed to snow tonight. (Message edited by robinpeck on March 14, 2012) |

Glad to hear you made it out. I bet the summers make for some good rides up there... |

Yah man sorry to hear that, ya know WINTER hit here today with a vengeance... by that I mean today's forecast is showers. I just fixed the starter in my M2 last weekend, only had time to ride half hour, now rain predicted for a week. Boo-hoo-hoo. Oh yeah, I got a Roadcrafter... Never mind! |

I have lived all across Canada and also in Manhattan, and have some European and California experience....I spent a dozen years in Vancouver, on the west coast, a dozen on the east coast, plus years in Ontario and decades in the foothills and mountains of Alberta...BUT I have never seen paved back roads as great (smooth and twisty, up and down hills, plus being nearly cop-free) as the ones here in New Brunswick. Its a great place for motorcycles once you get off the boring highways...There are a lot of back roads and they are nearly all paved...and so far, no safety inspections or noise restrictions...you can ride pretty much anything here... |
