I started to convert my 2001 x1 to carburetor but have second thoughts. The problem is I want to change air cleaner and exhaust now and later do cams and head work.Is it possible to make changes and tune without a dyno?I have no experience with fuel injection. Thanks Dmac |

The hardest thing about fuel injection is mapping !!! |

I'm thinking you could have someone map your current ecm to a standard Buell "race" ecm to cover your intake and exhaust mods. It's only a short-term solution - sooner or later you're either changing to carb or spending some $$$ to get a specific tune for your specific setup. It gives you some time to decide the path you really want, though. |

You do not need a dyno to tune, you need an experienced mechanic to help you with tuning the old fashioned way, and there is plenty of help and advice here. I converted my S3T to carb and have not regretted it a bit. |

Mapping DDFI to suit your set up is a piece of cake with ecmspy and megalog viewer. First as easy rider said i would load race maps/eeprom with ecmspy, then fine tune that by data logging with ecmspy and running the logs in megalog viewer to adjust. Read the tunning guide at www.ecmspy.com several times. I was thinking of switching to a carb at first but after i got my head round using ecmspy i would never convert to a carb.(saved $$$ as well) good luck. |

Tuning a FI Buell is easier than tuning a carb Buell. Switching to a carb will cause nothing but reduced performance and reliability. |

Froggy you sure have that "RIGHT" ... It is the BEST THING that ever happened to an engine, "BUT" getting the MAPPING PROGRAM and LEARNING how to use to your best advantage is a interesting LEARN PROCESS !!! |

Hey Snowbees, where did you get the megalog viewer at? I have the Ecmspy but need to get the data logging software so I can tune mine out. Good information on the ECMSPY, that thing is great!! |

Tonehd, it was from a link in the tunning guide http://www.ideasandsolutions.biz/MegaLogViewer The LEARN PROCESS is good fun once you have got your head around it,almost addictive trying to get the perfect map. (Message edited by snowbees on March 10, 2012) |

In my experience if you switch to the popular set ups for the intake and the exhaust, the Buell factory Race maps are just about what you need. If you want to squeeze the last few drops of performance then dyno is the way to go. |

What is a popular intake set up for my X1? I was looking at carb but the forum has changed my mind. There seems to be a lot of help here. DMAC |

Most seem to go for the forcewinder intake which is not cheap for just an ali elbow and filter. I made my own from a 2.5" stainless elbow and a filter similar to a K&N but was less than 1/4 the cost. I tuned my maps to get rid of any flat spots or popping and to get an afv that was stable around 100%,as it was running an afv of 117% and a slight miss at around 3000rpm on the standard race map. I was not looking to gain any power just getting a dead smooth throttle response. |

+1 on forcewinder. Good for tall people also! |
