'99M2 What would make the motor quit when the clutch is released (shifting gears) but it comes back when the clutch is pulled? (Other than a bad clutch lever safety switch, which I changed)? Changed the switch last year, was OK for a while, now it's starting to do it again? I don't want to get stranded somewhere this season. Last ride of the season last year, it acted up. I wiggled things and go it going so I came straight home. Now I'm scared to head out on a long ride. Any pro's out there that know the safety switch system really well? The wiring print is sorta goofy... |

Try working that kick stand switch up and down a couple times to see if that works. Usually it just plain goes bad. Let us know what happens. |

I tried jumping the stand switch before. Besides, if that failed, wouldn't the bike quit and stay that way? |

If the side stand switch goes bad it will start and run. If you pull in the clutch and put in gear it will still stay running until you let it out and then it will die unless you pull it back in real fast. It is there so if you try to ride away if your stand is down, you can't. I know because I tried to take off and it kept dying when I let the clutch out and found I had forgotten to put the stand back up. If you remove it just jumper the 2 pins. Let us know what you find. |

Well, the first time it effed up I jumped across the sidestand switch. Still no go. Then I jumped across the clutch safety switch and was able to get home. Reconnected the sidestand switch and replaced the clutch switch, all good for the rest of the season. I guess maybe I'll try the double-jump config again. I can't imagine two clutch switches failing one after another....can you? |

I once went through 2 Chevy dist modules before I finally had the 3rd one work. What's the chances of that? Lucky I knew the owner of the parts house. |

Hmmmm..update. As I said, I felt nervous after last year's "episode". With the onset of early spring, I got out for a couple "shorties" this week followed by a nice long one today. Feeling nervous as I did, I pulled the Molex 2 pin off the clutch switch and jumpered it. Not a trace of trouble, over 200 miles. It might sound cheesy, but if that's what it takes..... |
