I finished replacing the rockerbox gaskets on my 00m2 on Wed. I followed the manual. I started it up today and it sounded like a metallic sewing machine. I let it run for about 4 minutes and it seemed to get better but i"m not sure. I had read that the rods need to bleed down. Thats why I waited a couple of days.
Will this get better (quieter) the next time i start it up or did I do something wrong?

It think your hydrolic lifters bled down during your work. They need to pump back up with oil. It's never happend to me because I take them out and soak them in a tub of fresh engine oil so they never bleed down (learned that here, of course). I've also read here that if you ride around the block a time or two and they will pump back up and quiet down.

Unless it's something else?

I didnt think of pouring oil down the tubes. I guess that would have saved me some heart ache. As long as i know that they will fill up without any damage I'll just start it a few different times for a few minutes each. i am in no hurry.

What Jim2 says when you do this job.

Around the block a couple of times, easy on the throttle, and it should quiet down.

Thanx for the reassurance. i wish i had read about the oil in the tubes before I had closed it all up. Oh well, lesson learned.Time to take a couple of slow rides I guess. It will also give me a chance to test my new front/rear pads.

"ALSO" if the lifters pump up which has happened to me, "i" just put every thing together and let that cylinders hydraulic units go down over night and then do the same on the next cylinder
