OK guys, I broke down and bought the Buell and am having a blast so far! I'm ready now to give it a good bath. Does anyone have a suggestion on what degreaser to use on the black finish on the engine casings and cylinders? I have a half gallon of purple power that I know will cut the grease and grime, but I want to make sure not to mess up the finish on the engine.

ive had that purple power stain things before,try simple green and s100 has some stuff for black |

Harley Davidson dealers sell S-100. Buy the smallest to test it for yourself. If you like it, get the gallon size as it it more economical. It's made in Germany.
Make sure you rinse well when done. If it's a heavy gunk, use a soft toothbrush too.

Thanks guys. There's no heavy gunk, just a little oil w/dust and some dirt that's collected.
I'll have to give the s100 a shot. |

Make sure you rinse well when done.
This is real important with S100. It'll mess up polished aluminum real bad if it's not thoroughly rinsed off. Got PM wheels on your bike?

The bike has all black casing and does not have the PM polished aluminum wheels; they are painted nuclear blue as is the frame.
I just want to freshen up how the engine looks. It doesn't have any major amount of oil or gunk build up. It just looks like it needs a good cleaning and it'll sparkle a little more. However, I sure don't want to put anything on it that will make it look worse.
The front fork seals are leaking a little and I'd like to wash that off too, but don't want to put anything on that might mess up the paint on the wheels.
I appreciate your help. I'm new to the street bike thing. I used to have dirtbikes and we just took a hose to them to get the mud and dirt off. |

The wheels and cases are powdercoated. I use the simple green or s100, but I find the simple green works better. You really have to rinse well. For more frequent cleaning I just use dish soap. |

Congratulations on a great purchase.As has been said,S100 is the way to go.
Stay AWAY from any "Purple" cleaners.They'll etch any aluminum horribly. |
