I have looked and much to my dismay, I cannot find any pics or references to anyone modifying a M2,S1 or X1 exhaust. I was looking for a cutaway on the internet as well and I came up dry. If anyone has information or a link please inform me. I'm a welder/fabricator and I recently picked up a unmolested M2L, first thing I'm going to do is open up that exhaust. Thanks ya'll, Goody |

Don't do it. Just ride the thing. Save yourself messing with the carb and Lord knows what else. The O.E.M airbox and exhaust aren't going to win beauty contests, but the work very well. It's your scoot, your time and your money- |

When I drove the bike home after purchasing it was coughing and sputtering around 2500 to 3500 rpm. After reading many posts from here I bought the intake reseal kit from American sport bike, put in a 195 main and a 45 slow. She fired right up without the choke and purrs. I took a ride out and down the road and then a highway run. All I can say is wow what a difference. Brakes are going on tomorrow and then a reseal of the starter. I got a shock off of ebay and I'm going to send that one off for a rebuild. I'm very pleased with Al and his team out there. Spot on! |

I cut the end of the exhaust can off and I didn't have much time so I forgot to take pictures. however I will do a drawing of what I found and did if anyone is interested. It sounds much, much better once I welded it all back up and no coughing or sputtering. Jetting and intake tract seals are the key. I love this bike. (Message edited by goody on February 24, 2012) |

I promised pics, so here is what I found inside the stock can on my 01 M2L. It was a very easy mod, easier than a XB can. I have a chop saw and a welder so, in less than a hour she was welded back together and sounds much better. No back firing and no hiccups, I rerouted the crankcase breathers to the atmosphere and even with the Kuryakyn(spellin?) it still runs good. Overall I'm impressed with the reseal of the intake and rejetting of stock carb.

Goody: question for you - how far from the rear end of the muffler do you think that support is?( the one that goes all the way across towards the lower left of your drawing ) I'm wondering if I couldn't open up the bottom of the muffler, do the work, and then put a plate back on with a gasket. Thanks for your time and for sharing all your info |

The support lines up with the triangles on the outside of the muffler. It's the jack point. There's one at the front and one at the back. |

IF YOU USE ANY POINT ON THE MUFFLER AS A JACK POINT YOU WILL HAVE EXHAUST SYSTEM PROBLEMS !!! There are two lift/support points for a jack on the engine, PM me for PICTURES ... |

Second that. Tubers don't have jack points on the mufflers Joe. You're getting your XB and tuber worlds mixed up. As Buellistic said, don't use your tuber muffler for lifting. |

I'll take your word for it...my S2 has a Supertrapp and the S1W and the M2 have factory race kits (guess I need to break stuff more often so I have an excuse to jack them up somehow!) Sorry for the misinformation! |

Sorry I haven't responded, the wall/baffle in the drawing is approximately 4" from the end of the muffler. |
