Do you have a Corbin Gunfighter & Lady on your M2? What do you think about it?

I love my Corbin Gunfighter and Lady!!!

The ride home right after I bought it I thought I'd made a big mistake. Then I realized I need to scoot by butt back a little more than I had with the stock seat. I quickly realized that this was a better position and it wasn't long before I know I had the right seat. It's by far the best $250 I've spent on the bike. It's long broken in now for me and now I can ride with butt forward on the seat or back, lots of room to move around. I did add some velcro strips between the seat bottom and the edges of the tail plastic. This help to keep the seat screw from getting jinked around as much as without it.

Pros:
-All day comfort, no sore spots
-nice to the valuable bits
-love the way it looks
-removable back rest is awesome and love the way it looks but you do have to take the seat off to install or remove it because it is held on by a bolt on the underside of the seat.

Cons:
-it's heavy
-Why does such a great saddle in all other respects have such a crappy seat latch? WTH were they thinking?

My current profile pic has the back rest attached.

Everything Jim2 said with one more con, if you have short legs it's a little harder to deal with at a stop lite. But the pros out weigh the cons for sure.
I'm now using the pre 99 set-up with a Corbin and still have comfort(not as much)but love the look.(small tank and tail section)

Hey Jim2:

When you say crappy seat latch, are you talking about the backrest latch? having to lift the whole seat to remove the backrest?

No, I mean the thin sheet metal key-hole slot that the seat screw goes into to attach the entire seat to the bike.

Anyone else ever think about trying to adapt an X1 or S3 latch to the M2? I've got most of the parts, but that's about project number 100 with number 1 yet to begin lol.

Oh, and FWIW I have the G&L for both tail styles, and the straight Gunfighter. I prefer the Gunfighter over all of them but when L rides with me I'll slap on the G&L.

I have the strait gunfighter. It is quite comfortable however I find the contoured section for the driver's butt to be a tad too far back. Perhaps my arms are too short for the reach to the grips! When taking one of my girls for an extended ride, I put the Buell pegusus seat on as it is better for them. I actually like that shape pretty well and have considered having Baldwin seats make a similar profile but with better materials.

I've heard of the releasable seat latches on other bikes. I've never seen any other tubers up close. Pictures, part number, scans of manuals and/or parts books would be great information to go off.

I have seen several suggestions on here that use a regular bolt that is fixed into the seat and then lowered into the frame and held captive by a butterfly nut.

So, The reputation of Corbin for comfort and quality is part of the reason for this post. Another reason is because the G&L has that passenger backrest and a certain friend has complained that he is uncomfortable with the idea that there's nothing to prevent him from sliding off the back. I've not ridden pillion all that much in my life, and mostly that was on the back of friends vintage BMW back in the 80s. And it wasn't something I was terribly comfortable with either.

Does that backrest offer just a false sense of security? or is the mechanism for attachment really reliable?

Hey Jim2: do you have some sort of helmet latch on that bike or is your helmet just hanging on the pillion foot peg?

The backrest is attached solid. Although I've never ridden on the back it definitely does provide real security. However, the passengers jobs is still to hold on. The driver must keep in mind that there is a person on board and ride accordingly. The M2 has tons of torque and you could still knock a passenger off if you ride like there is no passenger on the back.

I ride with overpants and when I ride two up I unzip both front pockets. This gives her material to grab onto and she can hook her thumbs into the pocket. My front jacket pockets can serve the same purpose.

The bike is not a cruiser and the passenger cannot expect to sit straight up with their hands on their lap. They must lean forward and hang the hell on. Make sure you arrange a "go fast" signal and also make it clear that there may be times when you just have to get out of the way of a situation fast and won't have time for the signal. But, it's your responsibility to keep your passenger.

I once took my wife for a ride and I forgot to install the backrest. She didn't say anything because she trusted that I knew what I was doing. Although I take it easy with her on the back, I was merging onto a freeway on ramp and without meaning to pulled the trigger a little too much. When we got home she declared that I almost lost her! Oops!!!

I have no helmet latch. I just lower the right side passenger peg and place the helmet on the peg. I like the way it looks there. You have to be careful though because it's easy to forget it's there. There have been times that I just wanted to move the bike over and I forgot the helmet was there. I didn't knock it off but came close. Also, inspection time almost got me. I handed the bike off to the inspector and forget the helmet was there. They don't notice and it can get knocked off.

Sounds like you should jump at a Corbin and back rest if you have one in sight.

Just thought of one more thing for the Corbin and Lady Gunfighter. If you use the Ventura luggage rack system you cannot install the back rest. I'm not even really sure if the luggage rack will work with the seat at all. The Venture may act as a backrest. Not sure, maybe someone can chime in.

Here is the Ventura in case you haven't found it yet.

Yah, I go over some rude hand signals with a new passenger. And advise how best not to be knocking helmets.

Corbin will adjsut the riders seat pocket if you are going to order a new one. I had bought a standard G&L for my S3T, but it sat me back to far, I sold it and ordered one with the seat pocket moved forward an inch or so which made me more comfortable, and gave my passenger more room as well. I reallky like mine.

Hi I bought one on U.S ebay and my wife brought it back over the pond on her return from visiting her son in SoCal, and to be honest I wish I had kept my money, I believe its a gunfighter, with yellow trim and a spiders web stitched into the pillion, it's way too big for me,...I'm 6 foot and regular build.,..my daughter refuses to ride on the back when i have it on. Thankfully I still have my old one.,I can't even sell it, twice on ebay and also offered to the fellow UKBEG members at a knock down price to try and recoup some of the money I spent on it,..I am now considering having one of my original units remodelled and a gel pad fitted which is going to work out less than G paid for the damm Corbin

Hey Gusm:

When you say too big, is it too high? I'd ask what your in seem measurement is, but you guys probably don't measure it the way we do. It would be all Metric and stuff. ; )

@Gusm2, sorry it didn't work out for you. Especially after all the trouble getting it.

The plain Gunfighter has a fastback tail and would not be the same for a passenger as the Gunfigher & Lady.

Have a Gunfighter on now, and a spare Gunfight+Lady, but the Lady won't ride. Keeping it in case my kids ever want a ride. I really like the Gunfighter. I'm 6'2". Wish it wasn't so heavy! The stock seat is like 10 pounds lighter. The raised up section is about an inch farther back than stock. And the thigh support isn't nearly as squishy. Much better for highway, and I only commute 11 miles each way. For really tight technical riding, or just short trips, I think the stock (or the 'Select Seat') is probably better.

I prefer the stock seat for looks and local riding. However, the gunfighter + Lady is the way to go if you are doing any kind of distance with a passenger. Also I agree that the seat allows the driver to move back about 1" from the stock position which I notice makes a big difference on longer trips even when riding solo. The bigger saddle does feel less sporty though which is why I still use the stock seat more.

Hi all, when I say ´too big´ I mean the tractorish style seat base is just too large for my skinny butt....I´ll refrain from any comments about the need for the extra size stateside

I have a G&L on my S2, and love it. Even did the "parade lap" at HC'08 2-up with it - and that was not a gentle lap. I prefer the G&L to the straight gunfighter I also have, but that may be just a case of break-in on the G&L being more "correctly" shaped for my posterior.

I have a Buell Select seat on my M2L..LOVE IT. Just like the Select on my 1125CR. If you can find one, I highly recommend it.

+1 on the Buell Select Seat for the M2.

Looks good and is kind to the behind.

I can ride until I need gas.

How does the Buell Select Seat Weigh in?

I mean the Corbin G&L is HEAVY, the stock fastback seat is light. How does the Buell Select seat compare?
