Noticed you don't have the belt guard on (maybe you just haven't attached it yet) and there's one on eBay right now for pretty cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buell-early-S3-M2-S1-S2-lo wer-rear-belt-guard-/280756724098?pt=Motorcycles_P arts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item415e67a182 |

That's mine. It was on it when I bought it. It won't be there for long. I'm not an anti HD guy, it's just that is is a bit gaudy. |

Jim: You're right about the washers! I don't have the stock AC, it had a Hypercharger on it when I bought it, so the Forcewinder is actually an aesthetic improvement! I like the knee room too, my legs are a little longer than yours... rt |

>>>Don't want to get a Texas women mad!!! That's an accurate statement. Hey . . Jimmy .. if you want you can come to NYC and protest with Thing and I . . .we were talking on the phone today and, as we spoke, we came to realize that we have some demands we'd like to tender. I'm making up some signs . . . stuff like "less pollution, more hot chicks" It also occurred to us that both of us were forced unmercifully to pay for our own education. Yep, we were victimized by the man and made to work . . . we are thinking about demanding reparations and a couple new Ford pickups as compensation. Really . . having been given so little free shit . . it's a wonder we're even here. |

I guess the initial start-up will have to wait until after Thanksgiving. I actually had a couple of consulting jobs this week and couldn't get the bike over to Full Throttle. Gave me time to polish a few things up. FMJ shamed me into painting those washers on the belt guard--they're hanging from a piece of wire on the footpeg, drying, in these pics.

It's alive!
Took it to town Wednesday and spent the morning at Full Throttle double-checking everything, then put some oil in it and fired it up. Had to clean out the pilot jet (hey, the carb's been sitting for a year and a half...), slid the timing around a little, and voila! Noise! Tomorrow's supposed to be rainy here, so I plan to put the bodywork back on then probably just sit on it in the shop making "vroom-vroom" noises! rt |

Thanks! I'm chomping at the bit to take a test ride, but the weather isn't co-operating. It's been cold and drizzly here since Friday, not that I'm complaining about a little moisture... rt |

OK, it's back on the road! New motor feels real strong. Just need to put some gentle break-in miles on it now. Does anybody have an extra nut for the speedo reset knob? I didn't tighten mine down well enough and it fell off somewhere on the gravel road. I'm gonna look for it, but I'm not optimistic about finding it... rt |

Thanks, Tim! There's no rush, I crimped a zip-tie around the threads on the knob, it'll hold for a while. rt |

Tom, It's an available Sportster part. I've got the number somewhere... let me dig it up and post it. Found it! Part #7518 Brad (Message edited by bluzm2 on January 07, 2012) |

I spent a good hour looking for one last night. I think, I am not sure, but someone may have needed it in the past... Glad Brad found a part number. |

I've got Frank's spare. My Harley dealer says that parts aren't filed by a small part number like that. But I've often heard that its a standard Big Twin part. Anyway, its looking good, Tom. Mine still languishes in the back shed/repair pile but will be up and running for spring. And Arkansas. |

Well, damn. I took it out for another shakedown cruise and fell down on the gravel road about a quarter mile from home. Messed up the right side of the fairing and re-shaped the pipe a little bit. Fiberglass repair is underway. It's always something... At least it's running good! rt |

Glad your ok Tom.... Do not feel bad. Maybe we need to start a thread about doing stupid stuff as we get a little older. I dropped number 35 in the driveway, all packed up and ready for a weekend trip to Durango. I picked it back up, replaced the turn signal and headed out. 300 miles later I lost the clutch (most likely I did before that but did not realize it until I was in traffic on Durango).... I nursed it the new 25 miles on highway 550 (million dollar highway) to the resort where I proceeded to fix it in the parking garage using Lynn's XB as the go to town to get parts bike..... S2 Thunderbolt, Buell's original adventure bike. |

BTW: I am now thinking about putting some parts in boxes, clearly labeled, ready to be shipped to all parts of the country............ just in case. I am thinking that Lynn can read the label and over night me a part anywhere. Stator, belt, cables, bolts and brackets etc... Better than any dealer network. Now, what parts would I box up???? Stator? Belt? Wheel with bearings? motor mount? isolators? cables, breaker relays? etc etc.... S2 in a box LOL..... |

If you look closely, you might be able to see a little blood. Now that my 50's are behind me, I do stupid stuff so effortlessly that I sometimes amaze myself! rt |
