Can a heat shield from a '97-'98 Cyclone fit one '99-up? Or did they physically change the frame between these two periods? I know they look different, was just wondering if they were interchangeable? |

The frames are similar where the shield mounts so I think it will fit. However, I took the heat shield off my 2002 M2. I figured that it would be good to get te heat away from the rear cylinder and it is no problem for the rider while moving. At stoplights I just hold my right leg away from the bike. There was no shield on my S3t from the factory and the heat is no problem for me, even in Florida. I'd rather have a cooler motor. (Message edited by Dave 02 1200 on December 13, 2011) |

They did change the frame, but the shields are held on by simple Adel lamps, which can be moved to different positions. Never tried it, but I'd think you could make it work. |

The front mounting point look the same, I have a parts book for both early and late. The rear is like a hose clamp, movable anyway. Just curious, but why mix? Did you like the look of the smaller, early one? Or find a good deal on the old style? After I took mine off (year 2000) I like the open look so much better I couldn't bear to put it back on. In summer traffic, I sure feel why its there, but that situation is a rarity for me. From my understanding it was shaped to help 'scoop' the air to the rear cylinder. It just looks 'cooler' without it. |

Was gonna buy one from another BadWebber, but he had the earlier style. I may just go without. |

I run a S1 heat shield on my M2. I believe the part on the earlier bikes was the same between the s1's and the m2's. Fit's fine and is not so huge and conspicuous. |

Oh, front mount is the same, and as Kirk said, just a clamp for the lower, rear mount point.
