At the moment i'm considering to buy a buell x1 racing stripe 1999.

The owner tells me his x1 is a real limited edition racing stripe. But his buell doesn't have the numbered gas cap any more.

I will only buy the buell if it's a real racing stripe and if it has the correct numbered gas cap.

Does anybody know if it is possible to check if it's a real racing stripe? And if it's possible to order the gas cap with the right number?

I have a 99 racing stripe. As far as I have read the limited edition ones were not the 99. Yes the stripe was a limited production run, but the numbered models were 2000 year.

Great find! Now I wish mine had the numbered gas tank. The funny part is, I know 3 people who have 99 blue racing stripes, non of them have numbered gas caps. What made the 99 stripe with a numbered gas cap different than other 99 stripes without it?

The 99 Blue stripe specials SHOULD all have a number gas cap. The one I really wanted had the #ed cap and the PM wheels.

I think (could be wrong, and unfortunately all my old P&A catalogs got flooded and ruined) there was also a blue-stripe "body kit" available as an accessory, kinda like the paint-splash one. I know the paint-splash kits had the number painted on the bodywork, not on the gas cap...like an HD custom paint kit.

If its a "true" stripe special, having a dealer look up the VIN will bring it up under Vehicle Information as the original color. If it is, but you don't have a cap...have the dealer hit "print", at least you'll have that : )

Rat,

The P&A stripe bodywork set was black with dark gray stripes. Stately and elegant.

Definitely not as over the top as the splish-splash set,

Brankin - I'm glad one of us was paying attention...lol

I dunno....the bubble-gum set was kinda...cool in its own way. Although for obvious reasons I'd be more into an X1W, if I ever went EFI-tuber. I suspect, though, that I'll stick to DDFI-II and III : )

Ratbuell

I received a email from the guy who owns the race stripe.
He checked the VIN number at a dealer and they told him his buell is a real racing stripe and it's number 81 from 350.

The dealer didn't know if it's possible to order a new matching numbered gas cap.they will let him know next week.

How do you loose the gas cap housing? It isn't like it can just fly off! Good to know it is the real deal!

The guy bought the x1 like this and didn't even know about the numbered gas cap.

The only thing i can think about is that the numbered gas cap had to be damaged to open the gas tank (because of a damaged lock or something like that)

I think only the Millenium bikes had the bike number engraved on the cap ring.

Stripe bikes had it on the cap itself.

Leave it at a gas pump, someone swipes it at a parking lot, or just keep it as a souvenir when you sell the bike...any number of reasons it hasn't stayed with the bike. Glad the OP found confirmation, though!

Good thread!!
I'm always interested in info about the limited productions.

Race Stripes give me a great big...........

Me too. Although, I did not realize the blue stripes in 1999 were numbered. Learned something.

A while back, a red stripe showed up on here, for sale @ a dealership. #800 of 800.
My eyes lit up. "Ahhhh, a matching pair" I wanted it bad, just couldn't pull it off at the time.

Of all the limited productions, my favorite is the Millennium (obviously), but I think the Carbon edition is a thing of beauty.
Anyone seen #250 of 250?

Yes, the X1CF #250 is owned by my brother. It has a really cool story behind it. Purchased originally by a HD plant employee.

Do you know if the race stripe you mentioned is still for sale?
Did own a race stripe #610 of 800. Unfortunately it got wrecked in a car accident.

Now i'm curious about the story: )
Please let you're brother contact me if he ever sells his x1cf.

Well I'll be!! There it is, #250. There's a guy on here with #249, and #10 was for sale a while back.(supposedly 1-9 never got built) That's all i've seen in the way of "uniquely" numbered X1's besides mine.

I've never laid eyes on another Millennium. Seen plenty of pics, several owners on here, I've just never seen one with my own eyes.

Jeff, tell your brother I envy. Is it still all original? My X1M was when I found it (and less than 3000 miles). It stayed that way for a couple of years, then I started buying up carbon fiber pieces, race ECM, select seat, PM wheels and it never stops. Now i'm after a race header/pipe.

Dutch, that red stripe (#800) was at a dealership, at least a year ago. Some guy on here saw it, took a pic with a cell phone, and shared with everyone on here that it was for sale. I can't even remember what state it was in. Sorry. It was in kinda rough shape, but it could have easily been brought back. Wish I could have bought it.

Dutch I don't think that will ever happen. U will be about third in line.

Matt, it's not stock. It has lots of p&a parts on it. Screaming Eagle cams, Buell Race exhaust, custom tuned by HD in Topeka, Pegasus seat, race pegs, and on and on. All tastefully done Buell accessories.

He and I both had been trying to buy this bike for years. He finally caved and sold it him this year. It had setting in the guys garage for the last 8 years untouched.
