Just picked up an '01 M2, header is bunged up so I'm looking for another one. I've heard that the '97-'99 headers were different from the '00-up. What is the easiest way to tell the difference between the two? |

Early headers have a 2 inch collector 99 and later are 2 1/2 inch. |

Early headers have a 2 inch collector 99 and later are 2 1/2 inch. The big split when it comes to tube frame bikes is the 99 model year. |

97/98 are the round-curve, over-frame, S bend style. Look at an S2 or S1; they look the same. 99-up are the 2.5" collector, under-frame, T bend style. Visually the same as an X1. You can use an X1 or late S3 header, you just have to put a plug in the oxygen sensor bung. |

Thanks for the info guys. I have another question: Do you need a special muffler to go with what I think is a race header? Someone offered one up to me pretty cheap, it bends toward the back instead of the side which makes me think it is a race header. It has a couple scrapes and one shallow dent, is there any way the dent could be pulled? |
