I have noticed oil leaking out around the sprocket cover on my 95 S2, took it off and noticed that the seal on the end of the main drive gear shaft is missing and the needle bearing is exposed causing the leak. Can a new seal be purchased or is it part of the shaft? If so, where can one get a seal? Does anyone have any spares around by chance being seals or shafts? I imagine that the same shaft would be on the sportster, is that correct? Thanks for any help.

You are correct the seal is the same as a 5 spd sportster and readily available, just pick one up at your local HD dealer or PM me and I will send you one

Thanks, just ordered one. For some reason the parts guy I spoke with said that they could not be ordered, I found that hard to believe so I called another dealer. Thanks for the info.

I just replaced one, very easy. Just make sure you know why it popped out. Is the 5th gear bearing flush or proud of the 5th gear bore? How tight is your final drive belt? Good luck.

Belt tension too tight can pop that seal (on the way to doing worse things). A trashed needle bearing would do it as well.
