Saw the RS1200 in Cycle or Cycle World back in 1991, have dreamed of a Buell since. Tonite I brought home a 99 M2 with some mild custom touches. This is my 4th bike; Started on a 400 Yamaha, then KZ1000, Superglide Twincam until earlier this year, and FINALLY a Buell to call my own!

I like the look of your rear seat section. How about a close up? I have a 2000 M2 and they are a great bike made even better with a few updates (gaskets) and mods. Ride safe. |

Coxster, I would assume things like the rocker box and primary gaskets have already been replaced due to the bikes age. The newer style gaskets from Buell/HD are excellent. Ensure that the primary chain and rear belt are adjusted properly. Lots of info on this board and the manual suggests adjusting both too tight. If the carb has been tweaked with a 45 slow jet and air screw adjusted then you are really good to go. I still think that the best upgrade to any tuber is a better shock. I bought a used Works shock this spring and it is a great upgrade. Other tweaks like intake and exhaust are really for personal preference. I changed both but the factory stuff is really great. I recently put Michelin PR3 tires on my bike and they are awesome. I switched shifters to a Banke but the 2001-2002 shifters are also a great upgrade from the 1999 style, but not needed. Ride and enjoy! |

Nice! I like the fairing deal. But no matter how many racing stripes you have, yellow is still faster! Likely will find a set of intake seals handy (they're fairly cheap, for as important as they are.) Shifter, fork springs (don't know how much you weigh,) can't see what kind of muffler/intake you have, nor what kind of shock. Timing, and carb jets are good to check first. |

CONGRATS!!! I fell in love with mine and only waited 1 year before I pulled the trigger on a brand new 2002 M2 9 years ago. I still have it and love the bike! Here is a pic of Erik and I from 2 years ago with my baby.

Maybe we can collect a few 'stock' shots of Erik that we can all use to photoshop him into pictures with us and our bikes? |

Here's a few better pics. I know some of this stuff isn't stock, but I'm not sure what I'm missing yet. I see a bigger air filter in the future, and perhaps a Tach

I have always been confused on which shock was recalled. My 99 has the last generation Showa shock that was replaced by the first owner so I don't know what came off. Coxster yours is an earlier shock but I don't know if it is effected by the recall. You should have the vin # ran by your local dealer to find out for sure. |

The tach dash was still available at St. Pauls Ebay store the last time I looked. They may also still have the tach. It's plug-n-play and definitely worth it. |

Nice. Wonder if the fork lowers are polished or if those are chrome covers? They polish pretty easily. I think that shock has a partial recall kit installed, or was that clam shell on the back of the stock stock M2 shock (been so long since I had that on my bike I can't remember)? Either way, it should have a bracket at the front, securing the eyelet should the casting fail or the newer, heavier duty shock with the remote res on it. I got a M2 tach for around $20 from St. Paul a little while back (within the last six months or so), not don't know on the dash though. I think they may have just cut the seat foam down and recovered with the stock vinyl. Swing arm brace was also polished. Check that chrome pulley cover for a Buell logo. Some kinda sportster or something chrome brake pedal too... Maybe that red muffler is a "Cherry Bomb" glass pack? I've seen a few done up for the tubers, supposedly work alright. |

Quick photo should you get the tach. There's only three wires: common, tach signal, and back light. Black, pink and orange, I think in that order. You can verify their orientation according to the location on the main harness side of things. Open the back of the plug and push in the pins for your new tach, then snap it shut and button her back up.

Looks like your shock has the "fix" applied. That is the cup around the back and the cage around the front mount. Supposed to keep the thing from falling apart when it breaks, avoiding catastrophic results if you happen to be in motion. Back in the day, they gave you this "fix" and if you protested too much, they would go ahead and replace the shock. I doubt that you will get the same result nowadays but it is worth asking. Kilroy |

Looks like stock shifter and brake chromed, but my eyes ain't what they usta. That head breather set up is like Buddy Holly's glasses, as in 'Here I am, deal with it.' |

Jayvee that head breather setup needs some work. I have some serious bending skills when it comes to stainless tubing, but no way of cleanly connecting tubing to the heads that I can think of just yet. Maybe this winter. Right now this is our 2nd car as the Mrs just got a job; won't be taking anything apart until the dead of winter. My tubing skills just might turn up with a killer luggage rack I'm thinking of |

I concur- Really nice rig... Just picked up an '00 M2 and WAS stoked about it until I saw your pictures.... Do you know if anyone still sells those Givi windscreens? I'm getting too old to be such a glutton for punishment (I ride WAY too far on a naked bike) so I'd LOVE to have something like that to swap out for longer runs.... |
