This is my first buell and I've only had it 6 months. What brake fluid should I be using in it? Thx! |

While on the subject, let me ask another question. Is there any way to tell by appearance if it has fluid family 3/4 or 5 in it? Again, the bike is new to me and I know little of it's history. |

You can take a sample and see if water dissolves in it or stays separate. Types 3/4/5.1 will mix with water. Type 5 won't. |

I looked at the master but that doesn't mean the correct fluid is in it and thats my concern. I dont know the history of this bike. Its my experience (right or wrong) from the automotive world that on a fresh system rebuild you can use either fluid with either seal. Just don't mix or try to change over. Blake is right, water should mix with a glycol based fluid and repel a silicone base fluid. PM sent, I'ii take all the 101's I can get! |

Most of us tend to stick with the recommended fluid per the bike, there's not a "upgrade your fluid" type theme here on the board. So perhaps that will help too? Stock fluid seems to work fine for most of us as long as it's being replaced periodically. I can only remember the topic of changing out to a synthetic coming up once, or maybe twice in the time I've been a regular member on the board. Welcome to badweb, by the way! |

Thanks for the welcome, the board has been a tremendous source of information. I'm looking forward to meeting some locals for wrench'n & rid'n! |

Thanks for the heads up, still learning my way around the board. I'm quite familiar with Skeenah, stayed their several times. My son want's to hit Barber the weekend before. I'm going to try and attend both if possible. Thanks again!!! |
