My second gear jumps out of mesh and drives me crazy! Could it be a shifter drum adjustment or my gears? How hard is it to replace. |

First check to make sure your detent plate isn't loose. The 4 pins on the shift drum have a tenancy to work their way out. Pull the primary cover, remove the clutch pack and stator rotor. The drum and detent plate are right behind the clutch at about the 10:00 position. If the plate is wobbly tap the pins back into their holes and put it back together. Use a new spring clip, its not worth having the old one fall off. If that's not it, you will have to replace some gears in the tranny, the shift dogs are probably worn and rounded off. They are not hard to replace, just a PITA. The snap rings on the gear clusters are a bit challenging to remove and replace... |

I had this issue too. It would pop out of second if I rolled on the gas gently. If I nailed it, it would click in and stay. It was the last rapair of my extended warranty about 45,000 miles. The shop ended up replacing my second and third gears. It would have cost me $720. BUT It had never shifted so smoothly before and it has never let me down since. |

I rebuilt the 2nd gear pair on my M2 (along with the output shaft and 5th gear drive assembly). It took some attention and care, but was a very doable job. I think I started the transmission rebuild at 4pm or so on a friday, and by 2am it was apart on my bench and I had the parts in hand that I needed to replace. And that included running around to some local stores trying to find a gigantic set of snap ring pliers. Keep good notes on disassembly... some of those gears look a lot alike, but aren't the same. And one of the gears I got from my dealer was the wrong part in the right package (maybe their fault, maybe a factory problem). |

Pull the trans assembly out (I'm jealous of you tuber guys) and send it out for repair...have whatever is worn replaced, and the gears back-cut and get a new Baker shift detent roller. I don't know who to recommend in Cali, maybe give a shout to Fireman Jim at JT&S, otherwise the best transmission shop I know of anywhere is R&D Motorsports in Clearwater Florida... |

Fast1075: "THANKS" for the "INFO", as "i" will also pass it along as not everybody like you and "i" can fix their own transmissions ... |
