I've owned my 1997 S3T for over 7 years, and I've come here for information on occasion, but just recently joined the forums. I have 55,000 miles on my bike (nearly all mine) and noticed others on this forum who have ~100k miles.

Only Updates/Mods I have:
- Crane tappets
- NRHS tappet covers
- Vance and Hines Muffler
- K&N Air Filter and Carbon Fiber Cover
- Updated Rear Isolators
- Update Front Isolator

So my questions are:

1. What repairs/maintenance/upgrades (besides oil and tires) are needed to keep a Buell running for 100,000 miles?

2. What would cause a bike to lose it's smoothness over the years (ie. higher speeds make the engine start feeling like a rigid mount)? Yes, the mounts are all updated and in good shape.

Thanks.

You'll be due for a clutch soon if you're on my schedule. Mine lasted till about 50,000.
There is a thing in there lovingly referred here as "The Grenade Plate".
That's what goes first in there.
If you go in the primary, you should install the upgraded primary chain adjuster shoe. New ones are very

As for the mounts, I can only think that your front iso might have gone. GOOD ones last 25000 miles. Bad ones? as low as 1000 miles.

Front ISO mount bolts for the head. Mine broke at about 45,000 miles. 55,000+ on her now and just the regular stuff, break pads, tires and 1 belt. Make that 2 belts, I screwed up putting one on and it failed on me.

This is good stuff. I had been toying with selling the bike but now I'm reconsidering though my wife really wants me to.

Anyway, I've also read about catastrophic oil pump drive failures. I've never checked mine and now I'm concerned that it is going to self destruct soon. Any high milers changed the pump drive or still original?

My 2001 S3T has ~74K miles.

I've had two failures..
1) broken belt at 60K--replaced rear isolators along with the belt.
2) temp sensor in head failed at about 55K.

Mods are minimal..
Race ECM
CF Hamcan air cleaner
Supertrapp muffler
XB rocker box covers

Oil changes @ 5K miles using Mobile 1 in engine and HD Sportster fluid in primary.
Been through lots of tires and brake pads.

I also had the saddlebags develop cracks near the mounts that I repaired with ABS cement and fibre glass cloth. And of course the original paper rocker box gaskets gave up. I don't count these as failures as the bike was still road worthy.

No reason not to get another 30K without anything major being done.
