Ok Ya'll, Just bought a Forcewinder for my 99(fuelinjected)X1. I already have a Vance and Hines slip on on the bike as well. Here is my question. Can I install the Forcewinder and run the bike without having to remap the fuel? Iv'e had many local harley shops tell me they can't work on Buells any more. The one shop I did find told me I would have to buy a new ecm and also about four hours of shop time to have the thing dynoed. It's starting to get costly. Thoughts? |

Use ECMSpy to adjust your existing maps. With both exhaust and intake altered, that is too much change for the ECM to adjust well to on its own. No need for a new ECM, and if you get your maps nice and smoothed out to where it makes you smile, no need for dyno - unless you are absolutely intent on total power optimization, but in that case, why ride a '99 Buell, right? : - ) |

Based on my experience if you had already remapped your stock ECM to handle the V&H adding the Forcewinder will not require a remap. However the V&H and Forcewinder combo (or even V&H alone) will require at least loading the Race maps. |

Forgive my ignorance. Where do I get Ecmspy and Race maps? Is this an easy thing to do? Expensive? Will Ecmspy come with instructions? Fahren, you are correct in assuming that i am not in need of power optimization. I just want to get rid of the bread boxes. |

Folks who used to sell the cable on eBay sometimes included a copy of the software (on a CD) along with the cable. As for the Race maps, drop me a PM when you are all set up with the program and I'll send you what I have on my X1 which has the same exact set up as yours. |

Is it possible to just do a "reset" of the ecm? Also, I don't fully understand what fuel maps are and how they work. Where can I get information on this? Thanks for all the help by the way. Respect! |

I ran just the force winder and a V&H can and the race ecm for years with no problems. Just do the tps reset and flash the ecm with the race map. It will work just fine. |

No, you can't just "press the reset button (wouldn't that be great?!) The Buell ECM's can "learn" to deal with some changes, but generally not when you open up both intake and exhaust. Learning all about ECMSpy and Buell EFI tuning: a lot of information, a big learning curve if starting from zero. I felt it was more accessible to learn about when the original edition of the Tuning Guide was available on the ECMSpy.com web site. A friend of mine in the UK helped write version 2, which is what you see on the web site now. It is technically way more advanced, but also, in my opinion, less "accessible" for a beginner. Up to 2000, the ECM data plug connection should be up on the right hand side of your headstock - it was moved on later models to under the seat. Kalali, it doesn't sound as if he did any remapping for just the V&H. I had a good feeling of accomplishment by coming to a basic understanding of the workings of my bike's EFI "brain" (this was for my XB). So I would recommend getting into it some, especially now, with your bike's mod's. (Message edited by fahren on August 10, 2011) |

"Can I install the Forcewinder and run the bike without having to remap the fuel?" I am in the process of tuning a race ECM but went on a few rides with my stock ECM with no issues. The intake and exhaust do lean it out a little (from what I have read) but it ran fine. Just lost a little midrange torque according to my "butt dyno". So yes... you can run it without changing the maps but... You are going to want to tune it. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong anyone. } |

The extra heat generated by running always in a lean condition is not at all good for your bike. Can you? Yes. Should you? IMHO, no. |

And that is why I invited others input. I am still learning. Thanks Fahren. Good point. I will get my tune sorted ASAP. I believe I have the early tuning guide as it reads pretty simple for a beginner. Happy to share it if needed. |

Yeah, I like the way the 1st version keeps telling you it's ok to "stop right here" if you are not feeling 100% comfortable with what you are reading up to that point. |

Almost reads like "Tuning for Dummys" which is perfect for me. I just looked. I have Version 1.6.. is there an even earlier one? |

Would this have all I'd need to start remapping my 2000 x1 (econowinder, race ecm, borla muffler)? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buell-ECM-Spy-cable -TPS-reset-ecmspy-diagnosics-maps-_W0QQcmdZViewIte mQQhashZitem3cba65ad4aQQitemZ260825263434QQptZMoto rcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories I tried to do their free trial online but couldn't get it to work on my computer. |

If you don't want to go through the learning curve the easiest (but more expensive) route is just buy a Race ECM and have either the dealer reset your TPS or ask someone to do it for you. If you are a little PC savvy and planning to keep the bike for a while you'll be better off to bite the bullet and get the software. I'm sure folks here will hold your hands and get you going. |

Take a picture of the inside of your aluminum forcewider where it attaches to the tbody. You may need to make a small adjustment to make it work correctly. You can search here for new vs old forcewinders and see pics. |

Only if the bike is carbed. |
