Thinking of installing AK20's on my 2002 X1W from Traxxion Dynamics, Inc. any inputs???? They are NOT cheap... but see this as a better option than upgrading to 43MM forks. I hear the AK20's rock in the twisties and still are firm but aggressive. $999.00 each??? or the set??? $200+ labor is cheap however if I send them the tubes... so not worth my time to fuss with... Found two new OEM shocks for $250 the OEM never impressed me and I have done nothing to my forks in 30,000 miles.... rather than rebuild and waste my time this seems cheap as my time is far too much to mess around with rebuilds only to end up with a soft new OEM set. | ||

Just asking if the AK20 is a good option as i do not see a big advantage to moving to OEM 43mm options vs just doing the AK20 ctg upgrade in my 41mm tubes. | ||

Try a heavier weight fork oil? Especially if you are a big guy, it can make a big difference. With nothing done to the OEM forks in 30k miles, you are way overdue for an overhaul. You will want to change your steering head bearings as well, since everything will already be apart, and the only way to really see the state of the bearings is to pull them anyway. Fork rebuild, with new and maybe heavier oil, and new head bearings, and you will be riding a new bike. I'm going to try Amsoil fork oil this time: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/stm.aspx | ||

did head bearings at 12,000 miles at that time my tech said fork rebuild was not needed because it looked and felt ok seaks do look great shape but only matter of time so might as well do it all now | ||

10k is standard fork oil change interval. WP forks are easier than Showas - no compressor tool needed. There are some good photo threads on here detailing the process. | ||

think i will just upgrade.... easier, would rather do engine labor than mess with forks and replace head bearings to boot yet again might as well whole thing has been rebuit except for the front end. | ||

Guell, "That is a correct statement." No compressor needed. I can't imagine swapping out really nice WP's for larger (and also really nice) Showas, with all the other stuff you would have to deal with to make that work. It's not as if you have to pull the inner cartridges apart. But that's just me. Now, I would upgrade my S1W's WP forks to X1 WP's any day. EZ PZ. | ||

Cool, found 3 sets of brand new right and left forks for $275 (pair) each. I got them all.... (all 3 sets for $900) just sent off a set to be powder coated and the AK20 inserts will be installed by Star Racing of Americus, GA. in August.... I will post my ride impressions when that happens. | ||

I just bought the hyperpro front proggresive springs and oil from AL at American Sport Bike and then i coupled the springs with the racetech fork enhancement kit with gold valves. I makes a world of difference on the street and the track. It is very stiff now and thats the way i like it. At high speeds the front suspension is nice and crisp and very stable........Oh i also have a works performance shock on the rear. Call Traxxion. I got them to do new springs and a valve kit and something they added to the valve kit for more track oriented ride. It was reasonable compared to AK20s and gave me a surprisingly soft but very track ready ride. It works well. | ||

I am getting the AK20's from Traxxion Dynamix but only Star Racing beside myself will touch the bike... I am going with AK20's in new tubes and having Star Racing of Americus, GA. do the labor.... not worth my time to do it and they do one hell of a great job... I know after they built a 108rwHP and 92+ ft-lbs X1W for me that makes me  every day I ride her! | ||

After reading this...
