Hey guys,
I have the race exhaust (99 M2), ign module and forcewinder. 190 main, 45 pilot, shimmed needle and 2.5 turns out. It is running great, only coughs a little when it is cold and you work the throttle, once warm, it runs smooth and pulls hard.. I am to the point where I want to make an improvement, bump up the fun a little. Is the thunderslide kit worth the money? I would not mind trying out an HSR, but its 2X the price and money is pretty tight.. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks again! Frank

Thunderslide "worth it" at what price? $20 on eBay, maybe, more than that, my vote is no. I looked into them a while ago, but I'm so old, now I can't remember what the deciding-against factor was.
Most likely somebody had success with it, but depends on where you are when you start. I think you're past where it's useful.
A dyno run could tell you whether you're really optimized, or where the improvement could be. It sounds like somethings not quite perfect.
How often do you go over 6000 rpm? You might be up to the wall on the simple stuff, and have to step up to more cc's, headwork, or cams.
Or you could optimize the suspension, brakes, and the like. It's said reducing the weight is the same as adding horsepower. Not much to take off, I know.

I use a T slide and it works w my forcewinder and KT pipe. Sounds like you may just try shilling the needle up and adjusting the airscrew before spending any cash. Also check your carb gaskets and intake gaskets.

My throttle response is very quick but I have also modified my heads too. I wouldn't think the kit alone would be worth the expense if your bike runs well now.

I don't know about the other carb. Most folks that drop the extra cash will tout gains. I don't remember seeing a dyno other than I know it helps with starving big motors.

Maybe try another degree of timing for a free hp.

How about SPRING,slide PN 27728-99 which has less spring tension than the OEM SPRING,slide PN 27162-89 ...

This will give you better throttle response ...

I thought the Thunderslide was the greatest thing since sliced bread....
Until I bought the HSR. I would not go back to the Keihin at gunpoint, now...
Yeah, it's that good.

+1 on the Mikuni 42. It is a great carb.

However, if you want more immediate throttle response from your CV 40, drill out the vacuum port in the slide to 1/8th".

I recently did that and now my CV40 responds as well as my Mikuni 42.

In the old BATTLE2WIN mag Reg had an article on moding carb. He contacted Bartel's and Tilley's the said the same thing. They put in a 190 main,45 pilot 3turns on air screw(adjust to likeing) and drilled slide with .110 drill. Installed a N65C needle, H-D #27094-88. I did it to mine and with Lighting cams have 84hp and 81 lbs\ft torque. I also have a Westtek pipe and air cleaner.

The performance of the H-D N65C needle PN 27094-88 is surpassed by the H-D needle NOKK PN 27241-95 which the OEM needle in the M2 ...

Well, Lightning cams, presumably on Lightning Heads, might very well require something different. As the dyno test in the Knowledge Vault shows, the three needles tested are very close. Different cams would presumably need richer somewhere along the line. Could that be addressed with the N65C?
