"if you drop it its GONE" is what she said as my shiney red 2000 X1 sat in the driveway. My wife was worried that i was going to get hurt on the bike and wanted some kind of control to ease her fears. "ok, but dropping it in the grocery store parking lot doesnt count" i countered. we were in agreement and after all the riding gear was aquired and proper safe riding books were read i was on the road (more afraid of the wife's rule than the other drivers). all was well n good untill one day at work my phone rings........ "ITS NOT MY FAULT" she angrily anounces, with a paniky tone i hadnt heard before. being a good husband i imediately start to appologise for whatever i had done, knowingly or not. then in rapid fire comes "itshouldnthavebeenthere, itsneverthere, ididntseeit!" In mid appology i stop cold........a chill runs down my spine... "WHAT didnt you see??????" Pause, pause, pause. Now a quiet, soft, appologetic tone. "um, i backed over your bike" More rapid fire "youneverparkitthere, iwasgoingslow, itfellinthegrass, icouldntpickitup" shes almost in tears now and im more afraid of her hurting herself trying to pick up a 400lb bike than any dammage done to it. i can tell that shes more emberrased than anything. "its ok" i tell her threw partally gritted teeth. "ill be home in a few minuites, im sure its not hurt." thinking that at least the bar end mirror i just put on is toast. but dont want to say anything that might hurt her feelings or make her cry. Pulling into the driveway i shudder at the sight of the BOTTOM of my beautyful Bad Ass Buell. Deep breath, get out of jeep, walk around bike, asses dammage. Wife slowly walkes out of house, the CUTEST, saddest, most emberased look of ALL TIME on her face. she procedes to explan what happened, defensiveness gone, replaced with sincere concern that the bikes broke. i give her a big hug and reasure her its "just a machine" and "can be fixed". after picking it up off the lawn we inspect it carefully and only find a bit of scuffed plastic, so all is well. Not one to waste a golden opertunity i say "well since your the first one to lay it down i think your rule is out the window" Her mouth opens to shoot down my statement, but nothing comes out. then she looks down at her shoes and says "um, yea". we still have a good laugh about this. Her Offense as a good Defense just cracks me up. |

Nice! Glad your bike is ok and you got a get out jail free card! Or... a "I am keeping the bike no matter what" card. |

Well, you royally screwed that one up. Just think of all the new stuff you could have bought up; finding a small scratch here, a blemish there. But as they say, all's fair in love and war and backed over bikes. Glad to hear it wasn't any worse. |
