So after searching around for a new intake and realizing that they are ridic expensive for just an elbow and a filter, i decided i am going o make my own out of mandrel bent steel elbow and a k&n filter.i will weld it all up and probably paint it with a wrinkle black finish. So what i need to know is, what is the outter diameter of the elbows on the aftermarket intakes? like the forcewinder for example. When i looked at the econowinder, it said that the filter you need has a 2.5" mounting diameter. but when i measure my opening of the throttle body, it measures to be almost 2.5" of the mounting holes. Should i just go with a 2.25" tubing? any help is greatly appreciated. Its a 2000 X1 EFI by the way. Oh and before you ask, i just got the bike about 2 weeks ago and i disasembled the airbox to clean it and there was no snorkle in there. so the econowinder route is out of the picture. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/186417.html I recall using 2.5" elbow. As the mounting plate to the throttle body I found a large steel washer with a 2.5" opening. The only issue I had was the one mounting bolt under the elbow. I welded it up with the bolt in place and used a ball end allen to tighten it up. I made mine as tight to the bike as possible so it would hide in the orig box. Also used the gasket as a template for the hole spacing. I also installed xb rockerboxes after that to clean up the breathers. All seams to work fine. Al |

I may be willing to part with my econowinder when I receive my forcewinder. Your idea sounds a little nicer tho! Just a thought. |

Yeah. The only thing that gets me about the econowinder is the plugs on top. If I had the snorkel I would prob use it. But now I have an open door to something a little custom. I can make one for about 60-70 bucks. |

The plugs and the desire to hide my IAT on the motor side of the elbo is my reason for getting a forcewinder. Mine has black plugs but still looks a lil too ghetto-fabbed for my liking. |
