Hello guys I need some help on some major problems. Recently the bike began running on 1 cylinder. So I got out the ECMspy to check on everything. What I noticed: ET sensor jumping anywhere from -20 to 700deg celsius. TP voltage was correct but the reading was either 0 or 100% open as soon as I moved the throttle. Now the good one: the rear injector PW was in the negative numbers. These issues were all on a Erik Buell race ecm and progressively got worse. (ECMspy would recieve no codes on this ECM) Now I tried a stock ecm. The issues, the bike wont start. Have good injector PW on front and back. Checked the spark it is good. There were three codes. The fuel pump to ground, iat sensor to ground, and back angle sensor code. I checked the IAT sensor and it is not shorted, the temp reading is correct. I disabled the BAS sensor through ECMspy but still did not help getting the bike started. If anyone can give me any help I would greatly appreciate it, and sorry for the novel. "These issues were all on a Erik Buell race ecm and progressively got worse. (ECMspy would recieve no codes on this ECM)" I don't know my ass from a hole in the ground but from what I've read the E-B-R ecm is not EcmSpy compatible. |

Maybe its not the Erik Buell Racing ECM, it just says for race use only on the case of the ECM. This is all on a 1999 Buell X1 by the way. |

Erik Buell Racing doesn't make ECMs for DDFI 1. With multiple "sensor grounded" codes, I'd be looking at wiring - first at the ECM them going outward along the wiring harness. The odds of two sensors shorting at the same time are slim. |

If it says "for race use only", it's the old parts and accessories ecm that was packaged with the race exhaust and air filter. You can, last I checked, still get them new from HD. They are NOT programmable unless you hack them with ECMspy. Erik Buell Racing does NOT, as PK said, make ECMs for the tubers. If you have the stock ECM, swap it in and see if your codes disappear. "Known Good" parts are always the first plan of attack. |

The stock ECM is the one that provided the codes for the IAT short, TPS short and BAS code. IAT sensor checks out and the throttle position sensor appears to be working correctly(correct % opening with voltage lining up) and I disabled the BAS with ECMspy. With all that the bike just cranks it will not fire. I'm not sure where to start, I thought it was the ET sensor but that was replaced with a good one and did no change. Started troubleshooting with the manual but nothing is making the bike fire. Sometimes it fires for one pop then immediately cuts out. |

You need to reset your TPS when you switch ECMs. If you did not do that then there lies your problem. |

Pull the plugs and run a coil test if you have spark check timing, then check fuell pressure and test the injectors screwy numbers can be comm errors so check the wiring and connections On last thought the ecm spitting out bad numbers could be screwed up from an attempted burn or internal fault one thing at a time, simple ones first. |

The bike has spark. Timing during cranking was around 18deg. The TPS has been reset with both ECM's. Going to grap a fuel pressure gauge tonight and hopefully check that out soon. Tested the coils, wires, iat sensor, injectors both work and disable the BAS. Why can't this bike have a carb haha |

Timing during cranking was around 18deg. ET sensor jumping anywhere from -20 to 700deg celsius. intermitting electrical connection or ecm / com problem. TP voltage was correct but the reading was either 0 or 100% open as soon as I moved the throttle. issue with sensor, short, ecm problem, com problem Now the good one: the rear injector PW was in the negative numbers. issue with sensor, short, ecm problem, com problem is all of your information coming from ecm spy? you have got to be narrowing the list down. what is the battery voltage while cranking? } (Message edited by oldog on July 06, 2011) |

I think the race ecm is bad due to the crazy pulsewidth and ET sensor jumping aroun and none of those issues with the stock ecm. Cranking spark was coming from ECMspy. I checked the spark, coils, and IAT sensor myself. Pretty sure cranking voltage drops to 8 or 9 volts. I don't know if it is a low volt.age issue because the bike will start up and run on one cylinder with the race ecm due to the negative injector pulsewidth. I'm going to check fuel pressure with the stock ECM then report |

You have a bad ground somewhere. Check where the battery goes to the engine case, perhaps it's loose. Sensors can't sense if they have no ground reference. I doubt that there are any components actually bad in your bike. |
