On the 99 M2 I just got, the prior owner had a strut installed. He said it have a better ride. He gave me the shock that was taken off. From what I have read, the strut is not a good idea. It it hard to replace the shock at home? Will the shock raise the seat hight over the strut?

Thanks,

A solid 'strut' gives a better ride than a shock absorber? Well, there are a lot of complaints about the stock shock, but wow. Regarding seat height, we don't know the length of the strut compared to the shock. And we don't know for sure what shock you got. It's not 'hard' hard, but it requires you know which end to put a jack under, or you will get a big surprise. Did you check the Knowledge Vault about "how to replace a shock"? I bet somebody has covered it before.

Thanks. Yeah the guy was getting rid of the bike because of a back injury made it painful to ride. Sure the strut didn't help..
