Jack- Having ridden most of your route, I would say an easy 7-10 days to get there, depending on whether you use I-5 OR 101 coming up the coast. That section through the Canadian Rockies is deceiving in how long it takes for the miles covered. I am seeing local gas prices starting to drop, average high for regular was $4.09, now down to $3.99, maybe by the time I roll out it will be even lower. |

Tom- Is that red line roads or blue line roads? Sure wouldn't want to be running that route right now with all the wild weather. |

The first day I want to stop in Alliance NE to see car Henge. http://www.carhenge.com/ I was thinking a stop at the Casa de Bluzm2 depending on Brad's schedule (I need to get some spoon flowers for Lynn) either on the way up or down and a stop at Aerostich in Duluth MN but my plans are up in the air. |

Carhenge is great, Deb and I stopped there on our way to the 25th. Stopping at Brads sounds good also, that way you can get an updated picture to tape to a stick. |

I stopped at Carhenge on my way to Kansas-City one year. I was on my '99 S3. My return route this year takes me there also. Fun spot to stop, I had it all to myself. I think that had something to do with being in the middle of nowhere. Or maybe they smelled me coming... |

I'm planning on being there! PM sent, Spidy! Now, if I can just get the bike put back together in time... Started out changing the rear pads, and that somehow morphed into hanging the bike from the ceiling and changing all of the bearings that I meant to do last winter! Speaking of which; if anyone runs across a S2 header for sale, please let me know. Mine has several large cracks in it. I plan to have it welded up, but in the mean time it will likely be easier to replace with one in good condition. If everything goes well, I plan to arrive on the 15th, and will be camping out. Hope to see you there! |

Make it into a business trip Loren, stop and show your seat, distribute cards, at lots of motorcycle shops on the way and back, write off all the expenses, drum up new customers. Lots of ways to make it a win-win. |

Jack, I do not have any firm plans yet. I was toying with the idea of meeting up with Shane somewhere in WY or ND but nothing is firm. I still have many variables to content with and it is not as easy to just take off work for 2 weeks like it should be. Sometimes I just want to walk away from it all. Are you planning on taking 50 East again? |

Frank.........More than likely 50.......(for sure as a back up)..... sometimes, I just wing it as I am going.......(time permitting). Took 5o home from Co. 2yrs........nice ride. Maybe we can all.........."the going east gang".............hook up along the way. I hear ya on the getting away..........I'm the "boss" sorta and it is still hard to shuffle things around. Ride safe.........Jack |

We have time to discuss. To tell you the truth I have not thought about it much but I am contemplating hooking up with Shane since he is going through my old stomping grounds (Minot ND). That is a good 800 to 1000 miles out of my way LOL.... Depending on my ability to get someone to watch the furry children I may take the most direct route with a stop at Brads house and a stop in East Troy (of course I do not expect to go in or talk to anyone but figured a picture in front of the Buell Skunk Works would be in order) On another note, I installed the PR3s yesterday and I am impressed with that tire. My best attempt to describe the feeling of these tires is heavy and planted... (I doubt they are really heavier than the tire that came off but that is my uneducated attempt to describe the feeling) I never tried the PR2s so I do not have a good frame of reference but I do like the PR3s. I had Road Attacks, Diablos, Syncs, Dunlops and Metzers in the past. Now if I can find a stock muffler I will be set. I may change the isolators/drive belt before the gathering just for good measure. |

What could possibly go wrong with a drive belt?.. Aren't they good for miles and miles?.... |

Frank, I have a stock S2 muffler I can loan you. It would eventually have to work it's way back here.... Brad |

For everybody on the fence- 20 years from now which are you more likely to have fond memories of: a long road trip on your bike and meeting up with like minded riders of the same bike, or how great you felt to do another week or two of work. I am self employed, while that means I don't have to ask permission, it does mean I will have to bust my ass both before and after the run just to stay on top of my work. I don't get paid for time off and my work will be piling up while I am gone, but the memories of the trip will last a lifetime, and for me, that is worth it. Shane Frank, I am open to adjusting my route. |
