"i know on my diesel truck i have no catch can just routed it up high and then let it go downwards." You must drive an older Dodge 5.9 Cummins like me. |

Best thing to do it run it down into a catch can and then into a breather.... let the pressure out and collect all the moisture in the catch can. You dont really want that draining back into the engine. |

Pegasus Auto Racing has a nice catch can for about $25. That's where I got mine, little billet cut part with end caps welded on, comes with your brass fittings but no breather filter. |

Any catch container should have a place for the TRANSMISSION BREATHER HOSE to attach ... If you ever get oil on your REAR TIRE from the transmission breather hose you will understand WHY !!! |

You dont really want that draining back into the engine. +1 - the idea is to get that crap out of the engine, not to just dump it back in. |

I used the pegasus catch can - as mentioned by littlebuggles - just installed it a couple months ago. I figured what better place to put it than near the existing oil line exit. shipping from pegasus took 3 business days to central TX and came with everything but the hoses. about $30

also - to note - it does not interfere with passenger pegs...wife hardly notices it's there and does not throw any spooge on her pants. |

"Any catch container should have a place for the TRANSMISSION BREATHER HOSE to attach" I did this for a while on my X1 and ended up filling my primary with all the splooge from the engine. Much easier to just put a filter on the end of the tranny breather hose and call it a day. In 35,000 miles between two different X1's I've never seen a drop come out of that hose. (But Buellistic does have WAY more miles under his belt than I do) |

When my X1 is running on like say 100+ degree day some oil vapor will escape from the catch can filter. I have sat and watched it come out. So a catch can is a must. I drain mine every 110 miles just to make sure it empty. |

It has a lot to do with how hard you are pushing, and also your initial oil level. This is the escape route for overfilled engine oil also. Kilroy |

"i" run all my breather hoses into one catch container(ie: HEADS, TRANS., GAS TANK, and TIMING PLUG BREATHER) ... "BUT" of course "i" know how to make/built a catch container ... "FYI" the high quality stuff "i" use is a BLACK H-D 20W50 oil container and place it under my license plate on my 1997 S3T ... "AND" once anything gets into the catch container it stays there until "i" drain it .. |
