I just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you to the members that have shared their knowledge of these great bikes.

I currently own a 2000 M2 that I purchased new in 2000 at Eastside Harley in Bellevue, Washington. I didn't get to ride the bike much in the first 6 years of ownership. I moved to Central America in 2003 and brought the bike down in 2006, it sat in my parents garage for a few years, my family would start it up once every couple-few weeks. Before I brought it down I bought a 2004 Ducati S4R, a 2001 dyna, and built a chopper ('72 Shovel). After riding the Ducati and Buell back to back, I decided to sell one, I felt the Ducati was better suited to what I needed from a sport bike, so I sold the Buell to a local custom shop. It should be noted that a factor in the decision to sell the Buell was all the horror stories I read online (I should have known better). Living in Central America and being far away from qualified mechanics and without a decent postal service, I figured I should get while the getting was good. Over the next few years I saw the Buell sit in the shop, unappreciated, neglected, and eventually painted with a (I'll be nice here) love it or hate it black and white skull theme... yeah, the entire bike, including the hugger. Long story short, I hopped on here and started educating myself about the issues I might encounter with the Buell, and after realizing it was nothing major, I went and traded a 2004 Superglide for my M2 and some cash... on the condition it be painted black and have the obvious issues / hack-jobs repaired. I've had my M2 back for a couple months now and I love the sh*t out of it. Yeah there are issues, (still waiting on my front iso), but I'll hold onto this bike forever, it's that special.

Eric,

Did your bike have a cherry bomb on it at some point?

Nice story Mr. Rogers.

Seems to me that you should be a moderator for negative threads.

From my experience, these are the bikes if you want to enjoy spirited riding without the price tag. I even think Erik's new bike qualifies in that statement.

Yesterday, I rode my 1125r to work and back. Sheer genius with this design. Quick, smooth, effortless riding while still tickling the senses. Mine aren't going anywhere either, except back to my garage!

@Kilroy - Thanks man.

@Hootowl - I'm guessing that you're referring to a Cherry Bomb can? Nah, I put a Vance and Hines on it while still in Seattle.

@Two Seasons - I'm not sure why anyone would be negative about a Buell unless they had no concept of what they have in the garage (I was "that guy" once). I've never owned a motorcycle that didn't have issues arise with normal use, and lets face it, these bikes are often abused. I've owned UJM's, a Ducati, and more Harley's than I care to admit. I'm in a club that requires ownership of an American made twin (1200cc minimum); over the years I found myself lusting over the performance envelope of a custom FXR, something really choice with say... alloy frame, Ohlins suspension, Brembos, 124 ci motor, lightweight wheels, etc. Then I looked at the price and decided it was ridiculous when I could have a more competent bike for a fraction of the price. Personally I don't mind these bikes being misunderstood, it makes them that much more special to me. What does kill me is seeing people hack and molest these bikes in irreversible ways.

I used to know an Eric in Seattle back in 2000 with an M2 that had a cherry bomb on his bike. Thought it might have been you.

It looked and sounded pretty nice by the way. Seemed a perfect application for it. Cheap too.

@Preybird1 - I've never ridden an 1125. I was really stoked when they came out, unfortunately a decision was made that they aren't allowed on club rides. Come to think of it, I haven't ridden any truly cutting edge sportbikes, definitely no inline fours (that were manufactured in the last 15 years). I'm a big guy, 6'3" ~240 pounds, sportbike ergonomics make me hurt just looking at them. That said, it's amazing what sort of numbers bikes are putting out these days. Honestly, I'd prefer a 6th gear over more power.

You mentioned you could not ride the 1125 on group rides, what about the M2?

@01x1buell - Yeah man, our bikes are plenty fast for the street. Be safe!

@Cyclonemick - Any Buell with a Sportster derived motor of 1200cc's or more is cool, so yeah, the M2 is proper. XB9's, Blasts, and the 1125 (any Rotax powered Buell) are a no-go.
