I have always wanted to find a replacement for some of the parts on my S2. I realize that there are a lot of posts about customizing the S2 and to each his own. I would like my bikes to look stock, but run better than when it was new. I.e. new or replacement parts, as good or better than the original, such as the upgraded oil pump and gear or the '02 front brake rotor or using the Dyna filter, etc. One item that has plagued me in particular is my seat lock. Every one I have ever seen (with some miles on it) gets loose in the barrel, as well as the nut around the body of the lock. Then it starts to loosen up and chew into the fiberglass (lots of vibs back there). I know that there are a lot of good threads on 'this and that' for the S2, but have not seen all of them in one place or one coherent list of the original part/number and then the closest variants. I had a list like this years ago, but lost it when my computer died. It would be nice to identify the harder to find tuber parts and 'better' updated pieces so that I can keep my S2s rolling. This would also reduce the 'strain' on the quickly diminishing NOS and quality used parts out there for restorers (that work poorly on a 'ridden' bike). I am not sure how it would be organized, as there are tons of parts for the bike, but there has to be a 'Top 10 or ?' parts that go or work quite poorly and need to be replaced on a more frequent basis that could start it out. I'll move Buellish's post over: Yamaha Snowmobile 101 Mirror replacment is Yamaha part number: pair 8CR-W2628-00-00 left 4SV-26280-00 right 4SV-26290-00 They look very similar,but have a textured finish.They have studs instead of holes. You have to remove the rear stud with a cutoff wheel drill a new hole.Install a socket head allen of the correct diameter and length.Since you can't get to the head of the allen with the boot covering it,you drill a small hole into the side of the socket.Then use safety wire to secure it to the mirror stalk. | ||

New signal is at the dealer waiting on me to go get it. I wanted to go for a ride over to get it but I might have to cave and have them ship it to me  | ||
