Hello all..I'm a newbie and just wanted to say HI. I am new to the Buell scene after the purchase of my 2000 X1 lightning. I did'nt know how I would adapt after owning an old school sporty for many years. So far, I'm likeing it! I have a few issues to work out...the bike has 6,000 miles on it...all stock exept for aftermarket muffler and came with a race only ecm. The first issue is the first to second shift. It shifts smooth while cruising around town but when I open her up a little..sometimes it wont shift to second untill I let the RMP's fall a bit then it will finally go into second. The second issue is aftermarket accessories...there are'nt many that I can find...seats for instance..I want something a lil more comfortable and some type of backrest for my wife...she rides with me quite often..but unless I want to spend half the value of the bike for a seat...there are none. So if anyone can help me out with these couple of things..I would really appreciate it and I'm sure I'll have a bunch of other questions also...Thanx |

Your shifting issues are likely the result of a sloppy primary chain. After the first 5K miles, it should have been adjusted. They tend to stay put after that. You should also very that you have the new style tensioner in there. |

Thanx for the reply...I'll check it out..was there a recall on the tensioner or just an upgrade? How can I tell if it's a new style? |

The new style tensioner has a much thicker backing plate. It's like 1/4 inch thick. The old one is maybe 1/8th. It'll eventually break in half, and either be retained (like mine was...whew!) or fall apart and bang around inside your chaincase doing God knows what to the internals. There was no recall, it was a running change for all HD XL engines. |

The SPORTSTER SHOE ASM.(primary chain tensioner) was first used in the EVO SPORTSTER in 1991 ... The reason it was made stronger is because the primary chains were being adjusted TOO TIGHT on the BUELL Models ... A too tight primary chain makes the transmission shift like "CRAP"(too loose is much better as long as it does not rattle as in striking the case's ... |

THANX FOR ALL THE INFO...I AM GOING TO CHECK THE PRIMARY CHAIN FIRS CHANCE I GET THIS WEEK AND ALSO THE TENSIONER...I WANT EVERYTHING TO BE RIGHT..SO I MAY HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ONCE I START LOOKING INTO THIS. |

Corbin no longer makes a seat for the X1. I tried to get one last year and they told me they broke the mold. Unless they made another, they told me they would need my whole bike to make one. Me being in Pennsylvania and them in California was a no for me. They canceled my order. |
