Well I am new to Buells! I picked up a 2001 X1(always liked the tube frames)in December. It needed LOTS of work. Broken exhaust port stud, leaky cylinder base gasket, bad compression, electrical issues. I have restored many motorcycles but all Japanese bikes from the 70's and 80's. Some guy listed this bike on CL for a steal and I got it. Not knowing what to do I bought a manual and got some help with the engine. Re-bored the cylinders, new pistons and rings, blah blah blah. Fixed the wiring and now it Dynos at 98 HP with a pure and clean torque curve. I took it out for a 365 mile ride to Monterey California, and what a blast this thing is to ride. It drives along at 80MPH smooth as glass on the super slab, and a simple twist of the throttle it is doing 100 easy! I love the torque! The bike has a force wind intake and Vance and Hines(spelling?) exhaust, sounds so nice! Next thing I will start to do is the twisties, and learn its abilities. I own a 1996 Kawasaki Gpz1100 and love that bike. It has taken me from CA. to ND several times, but I think the Buell just put ole Betsy out to pasture for a while. I will post up some pics later, it is still a little "Mongrel" looking, but in time I will fix that. I am glad I found this forum, I will be tugging ears for info............. |
