My 02 x1 currently has a V&H's muffler with stock headers. Will I notice any power difference or a throatier tone if I switched to a buell race muffler? Bike currently has open air intake and power commander. |

In a word? HELL YES. (ok, so that's two) If you're putting on a Buell race muffler you'll need to change headers too. But you will find amazing things....like midrange power, and low-end torque. The SS2R is good for noise...and that's about it. Get the race muffler and header, and an ECM program to match it. You will not regret it, not for a second. |

The buell race muffler isnt just a slip on then like how the V&H's are? I take it the buell race muffler and headers are a matching set then? |

They are, and they're hard to beat as far as power goes so I've been told. Most people say to get rid of the power commander. I really don't know the technical reasons behind that though. If you get an ecmSpy cable and the software, you can dial in the fuel maps more effectively. |

I talked with the guy selling the muffler and he thinks it is a buell race muffler. I added a pic to see if you guys can identify that it is an actualy buell race muffler. He thinks that headers might be stock but is unsure.
How do I tell if the headers are stock vs a buell race header? |

stock vs race headers - from what I've been told/seen - the stock headers merge together in front of the motor, before making the 90* turn to go back towards the tire. The race header doesnt have that merger until AFTER the 90, so the merger is in line with the muffler. Hope that helps, sorry, limited time, cant post pics right now to show you |

Hybridmomentspass - Searched and found pictures and understand what you said. Thanks! Does the buell race header have the o2 sensor bung on it? |

The race header was available either with or without the O2 bung for the X1/S3 or M2 respectively. If that is a race ECM, get that too and ditch the power commander. You'll want a decent filter as well. The whole package is designed to work together .......and it does. If you keep the muffler well packed it gives a lovely deep sound - not as anti-social as say a D&D or Force pipe. |

If the headers do not have the O2 bung, and the bike still has the O2 sensor will I be throwing codes or have issues if I remove the sensor? |

Yes, your bike will run like crap as it will never get to open loop mode. If you find a race header without a bung, just have one welded on. Brad |

If you really want to know what the dyno tests show between different pipes and mufflers, check out the exhaust shootout thread. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/622058.html?1301838131 |

I just saw that guy parting out the X1 last night as matter of fact as well. I think it was on Milwaukee craigslist IIRC. He is selling the race muffler and Race ECM for $300 which is a little on the high side (though I've seen a race muffler go for $450 alone before). Yes, it was a guy in Kenosha, which is where I live...If you're up picking them up, shoot me an email and stop on by! I may have some parts you're looking for! If I read correctly, the stock muffler is very good. Maybe I should think about going back to stock. Did I get that right? |

Yea I picked up the buell headers and muffler from the guy in kenosha. I got them for $140. Figured it was a good deal. Here are pics and Im pretty sure they are buell race stuff. Small dent in the muffler but thats about it. Can wait to see what it does to the bike. What parts do I need to purchase when I do the exhaust swap? Exhaust clamps, and exhaust gaskets? |

That's a steal, you should have grabbed the Race ECM as well. Now you need to find a Race Header Shoe (good luck) and if it didn't come with the tabs that attach the rear of the muffler to the bike, you'll need to find those as well. |

The muffler has tabs on the rear of the muffler. IS this what you are talking about http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/6183.html My bike already has the race ecm. (Message edited by scow1 on April 08, 2011) |
