foximus, that was most likely a firebolt, the lightnings have a more tuber like handle bar, and upright position. i have the firebolt molded upper tree on my s1, actually i have the whole firebolt front end minus the headlight on my s1. |

I loved my Firebolt, and words like stable, slow and character-less would be the last I'd use to describe it. Also, anyone who rode an 1125-anything after being used to a tuber and thinking it was slow is suffering from some kind of delusion. Sorry, but it's the truth. My CR is stupid fast compared to my tuber. |

Well, anything more modern makes the air cooled mills seem a bit pedestrian. I still have more fun on the 'ol S1 than anything else I've rode. It's not about outright power to me, but the sheer fun factor. The S1 is as close as there is to a bike made to suit. Ride a CR and see how you like it. I find most other bikes, as capable as they may be, lacking soul and character. |

said bike ive gotten to ride it more... its still watered down to me. one thing that annoys me is that when in 5th gear the shift lever wont still move up into a phantom gear like the s1 does its just stuck there lol. dunno why that annoys me. and also the side stand seems cheap and is in a stupid spot to get to, especially in full riding boots, shoes its not so bad. overall its a good chick bike. that sounds bad but hey, its true. |

Make it louder and it won't seem so tame. Course with a new pipe you'll need improved intake flow and the race/E.B.R. ignition so it'll change more than the sound anyway. Great looking bike, I love the various clear plastics Buell offered. Select seat and slider placement are pretty slick. When the shift lever won't move, it means you're already there there, I prefer it that way, but we all have our preferences... (Message edited by littlebuggles on March 16, 2011) |

In my experience, I think the old S1's are faster. Not because of sound or some kind of feeling I get when riding. When I tangle with a newer model Buell on a backroad, I just eat them up. Of course this may be skill level or just plain stupidity on my part. Bought my '97 S1 new and now that I am 60 years old and still love my old S1, I guess I may be getting a bit reckless in my old age. |
