I have a 1998 s3t and need to go thru my forks. They are the WP units and parts are way more expensive than the Showa units. Someone suggested changing over to the newer Showa units which have rebound and compression adjustments on both legs. I found a set of 99-02 X1 forks(new old stock) from a Harley Dealership. Are these a direct bolt on? By the time I rebuild mine with a new spring(bottoming problems)it is going to cost a little bit more than the newer brand new Showa's. I'm a cruiser and not a racer. Just want a good comfortable ride without the bottoming. |

Exact bolt on replacement, and a good one. There is probably a spring rate difference between the X1 and S3T forks though Dean (Message edited by Blks1l on February 26, 2011) |

The seals are only around $25 and a set of heavier rate fork springs should only be around $100. An X1 fork will work, but it'll have a softer spring rate. While the pre-load is easily adjustable the fork spring will lose it's progressiveness the tighter it's set. The WP's are preload adjustable as well...ya just need to make a new preload spacer. Aluminum tubing or PVC work well. |

Wait... rick am I reading this right, or did you just suggest that a WP fork has a progressive spring in it stock? |
