I have a chance to buy a 5400 mile mint 02 White Lightning. It has the stock exhaust but a D&D on it with a Buell race setup computer map. Id like to hear any opinions on this from you guys before buying it |

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ if you can get the price, i feel certain that you will not regret it...... however, try going to see it with the most cash you will spend. start the negotiation at $2800, mentioning the $300 in tires needed.....work accordingly from there. depends on how bad he needs to get rid of it. even tho his asking price MAY be too high, you won't regret spending more than you wanted to. once you get on that thing and thrash it, you'll be grinnin' so hard that you'll forget the extra$$$ |

It looks like its brand new & setting on the show room floor but everything is ice here so theres no road testing. Thats why I wanted some pros opinions on it. I was really looking for a carbed model. Thanks for the help. Any problems to look for with it ? |

i have an m2 precisely because i wanted carb instead of fi......if that is what you want, WAIT ON AN M2. plenty of them around. don't rush. run the multi craig's list app for your state/area (http://www.crazedlist.org/), set up email notification for sale classifieds at this site, check your local paper ( i have sold 3 m2s in our local rag). the right m2 could cost as little as $2000. have patience good luck |

FI is better IMO and so is the X1. |

I'm with Jon here. Deffinitely try to negotiate the price down, but only because the "blue book" value is less than 4000. Honestly, the amount of fun you'll have with it and the help you'll get with it here on badweb will make it worth the 4000. I got a great deal on mine ('99 x1), right around 2600, but due to a couple of problems, one of them being my stupid ass messing up a wheelie, I've probably spent another 1000 on my X1 with no regrets. Problems to look for... Check the rear isolators. At such low mileage they're likely fine, but check anyway to be prudent. Sit on it and try to bounce it to test the rear shock. Have them start it because the FI X1 should have no problems starting right up in the cold (still has to warm up before a ride though, obviously). The last thing I can think of is to check the front brake for any clatter. It should move left to right a little bit, but there should be no motion in the plane of rotation. Pretty much everything stated above should be fine at 5400 miles though. My bike is just starting to see a couple of those at 13000 miles. |

Well, hes firm at $4000, I dont know what the OBO is about but I have a feeling he wont get much action on it. I cant see $4000 plus then having to buy 2 new tires & have them mounted. The down side is Im sure Ill never find one as nice as that again. I dont need it anyway, Ive got 13 bikes, but I just want one. Id rather have a carbed bike anyway. My street is solid ice for 200 yards so theres no hurry. Next question, let it pass or bite the bullet & pay it? Theres also a 650 mile roundtrip to get it which is another $200 |

Make sure he's got your name and number. I'd bet that "firm" price gets a little softer the longer he sits on it. |

there is no "better"....different strokes for different fokes...... i quit the vehicle maintenance biz when all of the emission controls, fi, and computerization became the norm. too many variables m2s are simple, predictable, and have plenty of everything needed to get in as much trouble as anyone can deal with.... |

In Dec of '09 I bought a 7k miles '02 X-1W from a fellow Badwebber for $3500. That included a D&D muffler, bar-end mirrors, the seat out of the Buell accessory catalog, and some add ons, like axle end caps. The seller had all of the take offs (except the seat) to go with. And a service manual. The bike was in showroom condition. $3200ish seems a fair price, as tires would be needed ....... |

"EFI is better? your nuts." Not nuts at all,a properly tuned EFI motor will make more power, get better mpg and live longer than a carb'd motor. |

Mtkawboy, you say you'll never find one nicer. I have a 62-year old co-worker who has the exact same bike you're describing. 2002 X1W, completely stock, has the blue headers. I've never seen one all original that is this nice. I believe the mileage to only be around 3000-4000 miles, I could check with him. He's a BMW guy and one week after buying the bike he decided it was "too aggressive" of a riding style for him. I know he was trying to sell it last fall for $3500 firm and still has it. All of this is just an FYI, Indianapolis is a bit of a drive from you. |

I made the offer & left my number, the rest is up to him. He thinks there some huge demand for these bikes out here. This 99.9% cruiser country. He's too big of an Ahole to go any further. Thanks for the help but Indy is a long way from here. Id still rather have a carb, I can fix them. |

FI is way better! I bought my 99 x1 for $4500 and don't regret it one bit. you can't put a price on the amount of fun you will have on it. Think of it this way. These bikes were $18,000 new... Go out and find a better bike for less then 5,000 with as much character as a tuber Buell. Good luck! Besides tires need to be changed eventually. Never did understand people trying to barter prices because of tires. Eventually every bike needs them. Now if it needs motor work and runs like a bag of sh*t then yes negotiating is to be had. I'm in Canada and tubers are few and far between up here. I would laugh if some one offered me $3200 for my X1 |

Canadian currency is called dollars too. Canadian bridges seem to be more expensive due to the different values of the currencies.
Just bustin' them |

Since you are asking for it.. here is my 2 cents worth. Hold out and spend the money on a S1 white Lightning. It has the carb you want and really is (again my opinion) the coolest of the the tubers. Since youhave 13 bikes already I don't see you riding it every day anyway. |

Yup Its true the buell x1 was $18,500 new 10 years ago. and the canadian dollar is going to be worth more then the american soon. You guys have to stop printing that paper and devaluing your dollar like its going out of style! Nate - Now you know, and knowing is half the battle! Back to the FI. I drain my tank put the fuel in my car and keep my bike in a heated garage. You lucky bastards in the south that keep riding year round!... if you dont have a heated garage then fill it to the tits and put in some stabilizer. for $3500 thats a wicked price! Ken you are so right the s1 white lightnig is the meanest of the bunch..but also the hardest to find |
