After reading the turbo M2 thread I was wondering what are the steps to turbocharge a tuber (preferably a FI Buell).
I checked out the Aerocharger website, looks like they do have a Buell application but no complete kit.
What are the requirements regarding the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and injectors?
Is is preferable to upgrade the connecting rods? Should forged, lower compression pistons be used? At what PSI does intercooling become necessary, external or turbo built-in internal wastegate, what blow off valve is the best, exhaust, etc...? Can tuning be done using ECM spy or is a piggyback system that can read boost pressure necessary?
If anyone has successfully done this, any information available as to which kit/parts are better would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have any turbo experience, but these guys go into harley motors and turbos - cams, crank, clutches, rods, pistons, cylinder seals, etc.

Talk to firemanjim. He has experience in the turbo area

The turbo stuff is all pretty straight forward. Need a ball bearing turbo on a Buell as the lower oil pressure of the ball bearing engine won't feed a plain bearing turbo. Feed it oil and scavenge it back. Fueling it is the tough one on a Buell as the EFI on these bikes is so simplistic. No crank sensor or MAP semsor on all the early ones. You need a way to add fuel under boost and still run under non boost conditions. If you were only going to race it ECM-spy would work,we have done one for a friend who runs Bonneville.Best bet is a piggyback of some sort,we use Microtech and Tuneboy on our turboed Bonneville bikes.
A stand alone would be nice but now you are getting expensive. Unless someone here is good woth the Mega-Squirt stuff.

Low boost you can get away with out rods, pistons, intercoolers and such, but go beyond 5-8 psi and you are looking for trouble.
External wastegate is the best but again ,if you are not running 20psi not really needed(we are hitting 32psi on the Gixxers)
and for low boost even the eBay knock-offs are OK for blow off valves.
You will need a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator--Aeromotive makes a good one-- and can't see a way to use the in tank pump.Depending on HP/boost bigger injectors might be needed.

Thanks for the info FMJ.
I looked at the Garrett website and there isn't much choice for a ball bearing, oil cooled only turbo, most of the BB turbos are oil and water cooled, which is a problem on an air cooled bike.
I was going to make that a project, build my own exhaust and intake pipes, intercooler end tanks, etc... but it seems like it's a bit more complicated then I thought with the fueling issues and all.

Not to worry as turbos on bikes only need the oil as they are hanging out in the cool air.Nearly everything you see will be oil fed and watercooled as they are off of cars and such. Cars need the water cooling as the turbo is huddled under the hood with all that heat. Look at Saabs and Volvos, some had BB turbos IIRC, I have a nice IHI that I got off eBay for 600cc project.

I was looking more closely at the Aerocharger unit, very interesting. Self-contained lubrication, separate from engine oil, no water-cooling necessary, the variable vane technology eliminates the need for a wastegate.
....there is still the fueling issue though...

For fueling, you can put in:

larger injectors
adjustable, boost referenced pressure regulator

That allows you to run lower than stock rail pressure at idle and at vacuum...but when the boost builds, you get the benefit of both the larger injectors and the increasing fuel pressure.

VNTs are nice. I have one in my 89 Shelby CSX, and once I got the cam centerlined and all the timing sorted...it pulls like a V8.

(I had to centerline, etc because I took it from the stock Garrett VNT25 to a TEC-modified 60 trim Garrett - "the Grinch's heart grew THREE SIZES that day" : ) )
