Maybe this time It will post. I hope someone can tell me the factory settings for the forks on my 01 M2. Also which adjuster is which. Thanks. This scooter sat in my garage for almost the whole year because it just got too bad to ride but today I thought to change that. I rebuilt the forks! Next it's the base gaskets.

The FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK that you should have will have that "INFO" in them ...

Do not have them yet, better get'em before they go out of print ...

Would send you my SETTING "INFO" out of my 1997 S3/S3T MANUAL, "BUT" my front forks are different than yours, sorry ...

Here's a stupid mistake I made with my first Buell-99S3t...

I read the fsm. It gives the preliminary adjustments in terms of "Full compression minus 1/2 turn", or "full dampening minus 3/4 turn" or something like that.

So wadda I do??? Just like a carb idle air screw, I run 'em all the way in (gently) and back 'em off the prescribed amount. Couldn't figure out why my bike rode like a rigid POS.

The FSM does not specifically state for idiots like me that one is supposed to back off the adjusting screws before turning them in the prescribed amount.

I must not be the only ijit on this one...My 2000 X1 had it's forks set the same way, and rode like...well, you know.

Now it rides like a dream.

Hope this helps.

Greg

From my 99-00 x1 FSM...

Forks Rebound (top adjuster)
"Max dampening minus 1/2 turn".
Forks compression (bottom adjuster)
"Max dampening minus 1&1/4 turns".
Shock Rebound (front adjuster)
"Max dampening minus1/2 turn".
Shock Compression (Rear adjuster)
"Max dampening minus 1 turn".

This is just what works for me.

Buellbozo, by bottom adjuster do you mean the one with the 14 mm hex nut? The only adjustments on these forks are on the top.

M2 forks are pre-load and rebound adjustable only.

Pre-load is the small screw at the top of the forks. According to my owners manual the factory setting is full damping minus one turn. Pre-load is a bit more detailed as you'll want to set for proper sag. The pre-load is adjusted with the nut just under the rebound adjust screw. Or perhaps I should say the nut that screw resides in?

Greg's suggestion of backing the adjusting screw out a bit before dialing it in seems a prudent one, just to make sure everything is moving freely, since these bike are nearly ten years old.

You'll need a buddy to check for proper sag but the loaded measurement (according the the manual) is between 1 1/4" and 2".

Let me know if you need the detailed instructions on that, the short of it is lift the front to unload the forks, then load them for riding (gear, bags, bodies, etc...) then measure. If you're not between the numbers above you need to increase the pre-load but turning the nut clock wise.

They also suggest bouncing the front a few times to make sure the suspension is moving freely.
