Hi all! I don't actually own a Buell, but I do own some Buell parts I am currently grafting onto my Sportster. I've been a member of the XLforum for quite some time too. I have an 06 XL883 that I've converted to a 1250 with a little help from NRHS. I used 06 1200r heads that I had a stage II port/polish job done on. SE.575 cams, Daytona twintec ignition, Mikuni HSR 42 carb, lots of other go fast goodies and plenty of suspension/brake work. The obligatory picture   I recently purchased some new 2002 X1 forks and some Accutronix trees. I had bought a front axle but somehow USPS effed that up and lost it so now I'm looking for an axle. My plan is to use my stock front wheel and my brake setup. The brake setup I currently have is a Brembo caliper/rotor from a Vrod. The bolt pattern for the caliper doesn't quite line up and the Vrod rotor is 11.5" as opposed to the 13" X1 rotor. So I'll be making a bracket for the caliper to line things up right. With the research I've done so far I've figured out that the front axle is 3/4" as is the Sportster setup so hopefully I won't need to change out my bearings and I can just make some spacers if needed. One question I have at the moment, as I'm looking for an axle is, which year/model bikes used this same axle? I'm sure I will have more questions as my little project progresses and from what I've read there seems to be a good deal of knowledge here. | ||

X1 and S3 axles'99-'02 are the same, don't know if the S1,S2,M2 axles would work. Maybe Wilson will chime in, he recently install X1 forks on his M2. X1,S3 axle #41130-94YB. | ||

All 99-02 are usable. I used my M2 axles on my X1 forks. Rear axles are the same too. James, Ping me your address again, I have a tool to ship you for Jim (olddog). | ||

Very nice. Thanks Jramsey. Hell while you have the book open how about a PN for the front brake rotor and caliper  Also I've looked and got a couple different answers. Can anyone tell me what the MC bore size for the tubers is on the front brake? I've seen 1/2" and 9/16". The MC on my bike is 1/2" so I'm hoping for that so I can use my stock MC | ||

Rotor 45166-00Y,Caliper 44088-98Y Tubers with Nissan brakes use a 1/2" master for the front and rear. A while back there was a dealer in Mn. ebaying oem rotors for $100-$110 IIRC. Retail is $350,I installed a EBC rotor on my S3 a couple years ago, they run about $210. | ||

just go get a buell frame and rear swingarm, attatch all your other parts, turn harley frame in to a bbq grill. | ||

I know that bike. Seriously though, sell the Brembo and the stock rotor and get a Buell rotor and caliper. The 6-pot Nissin on a 13" rotor will outperform your current setup any day of the week, and with a little shopping and selling the setup you have now you'd only be out like $50. Any '95-'02 axle will fit, and I may have a spare. It's the spacers that changed when they switched from WP to Showa forks. | ||

Cool, thanks Phelan. I've pretty much decide to go the Buell brake route, just need to save my pennies. May try putting the old rotor and caliper up on fleabay. They don't have a whole lot of miles on em, but they are used. Might just buy myself an early X-mas present As far as the axle, I just bought one from a guy in the classifieds. I'm using my stock wheel so I'll likely have to do some machining on the spacers anyway. | ||

Another quick question. What is the width of the hub on the front wheel of a tuber? Again I'm using X1 forks (not sure that it matters). I'm trying to figure out a rough estimate of the wheel spacers I'll need before I pull everything apart. | ||

The bearings are recessed in the hub. X1 forks measure 5.845" inside where the spacers/axle goes. Left side spacer measures 1.125" to the shoulder where its steps down to fit the bearing. 6204 ID 20mm = .7874 Right side spacer measures .450" to the step. The step itself measures .700" long so to keep the inner spacer (the one between the bearings) centered during assembly. Axle diameter is 17 mm = .669". Spacer od. is non critical, oem is .990". | ||
