Is there an equivalent HD number for a TPS Sensor for a 2001 S3? Current part number is 29537-99Y. Thanks

H-D big twins, Sportsters, and Buells all use three different types of injection.

I have no real idea why : )
Perhaps some individual parts would cross over but I wouldn't bet on that.

Saw this once upon a time on another forum
"Moral of the story, for those of you who need to replace a TPS or are reluctant to because of the HD price point, fear not, grab one off of an 86 - 93 5.0 Mustang and you should be good to go. I am positive the very same TPS is used in MANY other applications so the choices are plentiful."

Should be simple enough to have a look at one at the local auto parts store to see if it matches, may even be able to find a pick of the mustang tps online at autozone.

Being interested in a cross-over number myself, I went to a local auto-parts store (it happened to be an Autozone) and checked. They didn't have one in stock for a '93 Mustang, so I didn't get to look at one, but they are less than half of the price quoted by a H-D/Buell dealer.

Have a new TPS in my stock, so pulled it out. It does have a Ford logo on the inside of the connector, FWIW. No numbers that correspond to the ones provided by Autozone. Both the new one and the one on my '01 X-1 have the number 52206507 on the side of the connector, followed by a 5 digit alphanumeric code. I suspect the first is a vendors part number, and the second is a lot number.

Any way to check the 552--- number?

Hope this helps; will try some more, Dave

Ended up at fordfuelinjection.com via Google, and checked. What appears to be the identical TPS sensor is pictured there. Now to find the Ford number. No luck w/the 522---- number. May try Advance Auto parts.

Here is the Napa Echlin TPS part # 2-1918. Remember when replacing TPS sensor you must zero the throttle position.

First, the disclaimer: None of the auto parts places I have checked so far have had one in stock, so I have not had one in my hand. IDK if wire A goes to pin 1, ect.

Text at fordfuelinjection.com shows their TPS to use a 5V ref signal, and voltages from closed to open that are in line w/the numbers given in the Buell service manual.

Advance Auto Parts also listed 2 p/n for a '93 Mustang, and had pics of them. The difference seems to be one has shielding around the wire harness and a white, fluted nylon pin to allow securing to a bracket, the other does not. The one w/shielding matches the Buell part.

Will try O'Reilly's next. May have to take one for the team and just buy one to confirm.

So, for the toaster, the microwave, and the DVD player, my final answer is ......

Advance Auto Parts p/n EC1016, $40.09

And thanks, Dblast. Another possible.

This is a fun quest....

O'Reilly had one in stock, p/n EC1016. Wire are the right color, in the right order. They are asking $67ish dollars.

It seems like the 2007 TPS P/N: P0279.3AA are bagged as 29537-99Y. The 99-06 have a horizontal key on the throttle shaft and the 2007 has a vertical key.

This is the key on the shaft of a 2006 throttle body

This is a comparison of the two sensors. 99-06 on the left and 07 on the right.

The one for the Mustang on the link seems to take a 3-way key. It looks like it works but only one of the lugs will make contact with the key on a Buell.

Following the lead from this link I've tried to track down any other Ford ones that might work but no luck. The parts places that have TPSs in stock aren't interested on going through looking for one that might work.

Looks like it could be 2 months before it gets sorted and some 99-06 models may be off the road waiting for the correct part.

Anyone got any additional info. Even a genuine Ford part number for the Mustang one would help. The Australian suppliers don't have Mustang listings.

I hope this helps you guys. I have an 05 Firebolt with a bad tps and have been waiting for months for the new to come in from HD. While searching online for an alternative I came across this thread about the Mustang tps. I happen to have an 88 Mustang with a 5.0 and compared the 2 and they were almost exactly alike, with minor differences in the plastic due to different manufactures or versions.

So I put the tps from my car on my Buell, reset it, and it pretty much ran the way it did before. Until I went for a 20 mile ride on the freeway keeping it around 3000-3500 rpm. After that it is running much better. With the old tps it would barely run below 2000 rpm, when warm the idle would hunt around 600-1300 rpm and stall occasionally. Starting it cold it wouldn't run unless you gave it some throttle and if you went below 2000 rpm it would bounce within a 1000 rpm range.

With the tps from my Mustang, warmed up, the idle now bounces between 1100-1300 and when cold will idle now without giving it any throttle. It still isn't rock solid, idle bounces between 1000-1300, but it is much better than it was. I was going to take it to work this morning but I changed the oil last night and I was a quart short when I went to refill it. Picked up a quart today so I'll see how it does tomorrow.

I think it is safe to say A TPS from a 1988 Mustang w/5.0 will work on a 99-06 Buell

Thanks SocialBueller
Do you have a Ford part number for it? They won't give me the number here in Australia unless I give them the part number ; )

I recently repaired a throttle body shaft and I smoothed out the idle by rotating the TPS. I wrote it up here.

It might help you get a smoother idle.

Here are the part numbers I got off www.rockauto.com

MOTORCRAFT Part # CX1133
MOTORCRAFT Warranty Information
12 months/12,000 miles
Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 2U2J7G497AGA, E6AF9B989CA, E6AF9B989DA, E6AZ9B989C

Nice post about the shaft replacement. I'll read it more carefully later and hopefully this weekend I can work on my tps more to see if I can get my idle to smooth out.

That's great SocialBueller. Thank you.

As I posted above the Genuine 99-06 TPS sensors were packaged wrong and then listed as out of stock for 2 months. I'd been chasing a sensor for the bike in that post until the shaft broke and I fitted an 07 spec shaft.

I tried Ford here but they weren't very helpful.

I can confirm the '93 Mustang GT unit works on a '99 X1.
