can anyone on here help me out? its winter time already, which means winter project, and i have nothing to build off of so far. my frame has a serious case of road rash and its unrepairable (imo) just looking for another one so i can get it powdered, and start tearing my s1 down piece by piece, get the pieces powdered, and make the switch-a-roo and replace a few broken, worn items, and repaint my plasttics while im at it. |

You just missed one that went for $150 on eBay. One bid. Methinks you aren't searching hard enough... (Message edited by brinnutz on October 28, 2010) |

and weld in that extra frame brace member on front left side that the X1's have, while you're at it? |

Is the frame bent or otherwise structurally un-sound? Or...just ugly? If it's just ugly...go old-school and lead it. Fill the scrapes with lead, shape 'em the way they should be, and put 'er back on the road. |

"and weld in that extra frame brace member on front left side that the X1's have" The extra frame brace on the left side was on every tuber from 99 on ... Like I said .. Don't know if it would suit your situation but I replied in the classifieds ... Old Pro Thunderbike S1 frame sitting in my garage .. |

Hey Brian, did you mention to him that that S1 frame can run the 99 and up under the frame headers? |

Yup I did sir ... Been replying over in the classifieds .. I almost feel guilty offering up that frame though knowing it has a lil bit of a history what with the different riders that were on it and that it was the original Buell Pro Thunderbike model - this frame was built as a race only .. No VIN stamp, nothing... But Jason and I got our hands on a super clean S3 frame .. Which we can title ... Means much less fab work for us on the drag bike ... Other than lowering the front fairing to work with clip-ons .., I love it - an S3 with clip-ons and wheelie bars ... Haha |

is the brace that lower front smaller diameter tube, runs above the front of the primary cover? how hard is it to find someone that does that lead filling you mentioned? i dont think my frame is tweaked, i mean the bike rides straight as an arrow, but it has a bad gash in the side of it, the tubes are pinched and scratched pretty good obviously a repair would be the the least amout of work and possibly the cheapest |

Lead filling is standard "old skewl" auto body repair, but it can be a bitch to work, and you can't really sand it. I don't see any reason not to use a good (and that means "not Bondo") polyester body filler, a 2-part like Rage Extreme, or similar. As long as the marks are cosmetic and the fill does not have any structural duty to do (neither lead nor plastic are structurally up to it), then you should be fine. I'd be a bit concerned about the pinched tubes. Any pix? (Message edited by fahren on October 29, 2010) |

You can do it your self ,maybe you practice first on a piece of tin or iron pipe , And take your time for it!! http://www.ehow.com/how_4693422_do-lead-body-work. html http://www.tptools.com/p/464,201_Starter-Auto-Body -LeadandSolder-Kit.html |

Those are some ugly marks. Maybe Purpony can say if lead will hold up to the powder process, he's built himself a oven recently. Perhaps he'd be willing to put a lead weight in the next batch he bakes to see if it holds shape? Yup, the lower tube above the primary:

I would weld it as well, and blend it all back in, you would never know. |

...and I wouldn't worry about strength, with the gusset right there. You should be just fine strength-wise. Fill/weld/whatever to your tastes, refinish it...and keep riding |
