After riding for the past 40 years on countless Bikes. I decided to find the perfect bike for me and I think I found it. Im pretty jazzed about my Buell, just brought it home tonight and love it. My 99 X1 I found in" like new" condition was quite a find. Think everyone has a bucket list of the bikes they always wanted, Ive just started on mine. |

Thanks for the many welcomes. Im still pleased as punch with this bike. Got the chance to ride it a bit more today after the NC rainstorms passed thru the area.Find the Lighting quite comfortable even considering my advanced age. Engine Vibs can be a bit excessive below 3 k rpms, makes my eyeballs jiggle, especially on decell and downshifting. My idle speed is too low, working on that. Great power, lofted the front tire today in second gear. Nothing stupid,, just a great pull from the engine.Love controled power wheelies. Brakes seem a bit week with the 99 model. Very linear, but high effort. Nothing Like the Eyetalian bikes Im used to,but Im still grinning ear to ear. This hasent happened to me in a long, long time. |

I tell anybody who will listen that they should ride a Buell at least once. Vmax's are also a hoot to ride. |

quote{This hasent happened to me in a long, long time.} I was only Harleys for 25 years. Erik Buell made riding fun for me again in 1996. I know just how you feel. Buellistic is one of the more knowledgable people in the Old School section (where the best people to throw a leg over a Buell are). He has loads of information. If you get over to the Storm Fronts section of the site you will find the Carolina Corner Carvers (C3). They are a good group to ride with. Welcome to the madness. My impression on ride comfort on the X1 is the same as yours. I was surprised how comfortable it was. Unfortunately I was just working on it and do not own one. Frank |

Skinner,You are quite right..The Vmax is an awesome bike, Ive ridden a few.In my bucket list search, I considered the Max, it just lacked the character I was looking for. Almost bought a MG V11 sport instead of the Buell. Think I made the better choice. Skinner, Thanks for the heads up on the Carolina(C3), will look into the group. Its hard to find the right group to ride with.Consider myself sporting but not stupid. Thanks for your suggestion. |

Hey James,, I might have assumed to much when I thought most Buell owners would be young. Im 55 years old, Origionally from Daytona Beach,Fl transplanted to NC about 10 years ago. Ex instructor @ American Motorcycle Institute back in 1980-82 and hated Bike week. Tourists clogging the roads making it hard to get to work. My favorite hang out, The Boot Hill Saloon was mobbed during those weeks. Thursday night was quarter beer night, off season.Wifey hated Thursday nights. Remember back when Cycle Goodies and Cycle care bike shops were just small holes in the wall, the owners are close friends of mine and worked with them. Pub 44 back then was just a dive and spent many a night upchucking tequila in the parking lot. Now, I hear its a tourist attraction? Cabbage patch was an old mans bar for farmers.Went there for late night drag races, won and lost a lot of money in those days. Think the most I miss about Daytona is brain cells. |
