 I was getting ready to clean the M2 up when I noticed this!! Was really hoping that this mis-hap would have ecscaped me! But Oh, Well!! Atleast I got it home safe from the last ride! Sorry about sideways pic, all these years on this site and I'm just now posting pic's! Anyone know if I can re-use bolts.....Or just buy New? | ||

My mount didn't break, but my mount head bolt broke. All fixed now with a billet isolator mount just for assurance. | ||

seems to be inevitable... just like the clutch weep on my 1125, replace with a better unit and new bolts if you ask me! | ||

billet isolator mount? i.e you replaced the cast aluminum one with a billet one? or you have a billet isolator (originally rubber)? this is one issue i have done my preventative maintenance on, XB billet adapter  | ||

Mick, welcome to the club. I guess there are two kind of tuber riders. Those that have broken front motor mount components and those that have yet to break front motor mount components. Good you caught it early!! | ||

I have 55k miles on the Cyclone now and thought that maybe I was going to get lucky and not have this problem! 5k ago I replaced the Front Iso and at that time the mount looked great! The NRHS mount sure looks nice! Unfortunately I may have to go the cheap route for now. $65 dollars vs $229. If the Replacement Mount (oem) lasts as long as the stock one does I'd say that I'm ok with that! Although when things pick up around work I may go ahead and spring for the NHRS mount and put it on the shelf! Decisions, decisions...... | ||

I did a little digging at lunch and also discovered it would be a good Idea to go ahead and pick up some new Bolts for the Replacment. I do have a question someone might be able to help me with, I have seen mentioned it posts (actually one above from The4ork) that the XB mount is much Improved, Can that be used on our Beloved Tubers? | ||

If they have it in stock it means 1 of 2 things. 1. they sell a lot of them so they keep 1 in stock all the time. or 2. They have had it in stock for a long time because it was ordered and never picked up. I'm betting on #2 | ||

Well, got some bad news! Stopped by the dealer this morning and they did not have the stock mount in stock! What they did have is 4 fron isolators! Which does me no good! They did say they could order me what I need but it would take a week! They also did not have bolts and washers in stock so I went ahead and ordered them at $8 bucks a piece! I held off on ordering the mount because I'm not sure if I should go ahead and get the stock mount or order one from Billet to Race from E-bay. It looks nice and does not have the extra "arm" for the "Bread Box", but AL from American Sport Bike voiced some concern over the mount putting the bolts Threaded shank in the "SHEAR PLANE" This was discussed in a good thread in the KV about TUBER MOTOR MOUNTS. I sent X1devil an E mail since he was the one who is using the B2R Mount. He said he has had no problems with his mount or bolts shearing and his original post was from 4 years ago! So know I'm not sure what to do, Buy the stock and worry about it breaking again or spend and extra $30 bucks or so and buy the B2R mount and worry about it?? Wish that Beautiful Piece from NHRS was a little more affordable! Anyone else use the BIllet 2 Race Mount? Or anything else out there? | ||

You know I was thinking over the weekend and I may just go ahead and use the Stock Buell Mount. But I was thinking since the X1 does not have a "Bread Box" does the X1 mount have the Extra Arm that sticks out? Will that mount work with the M2? | ||

X1's don't have the bread box mount and yes it will fit M2s and S3s. | ||

The X1 bread box is frame mounted unlike the M2,S3 bread box which are engine mounted. | ||

Thanks guys! ReInforcing the stock mount is not a bad idea! I have some gifted welders where I work! What would be the optimum material for a Re-Inforcment Plate? Steel, Aluminun, Something Else? It that your bike Fuzz? Would Re-Inforcing the stock mount cause more Vibration due to being more solid? Not worried so much about Vibes to my hands but would be more worried about Shearing Head Bolts! What do you all think? | ||

Mick, yup that's mine, broke the original pretty early on, the one in the pic is off an S1, if I remember right. No extra vibes, lotsa miles since installed. The cross brace is thick aluminum, with the cut out for the vertical bolt. Sorry it was so dirty at the time...LOL!!!  | ||

i removed all the sharp edges on mine, removed the offensive looking cover piece, and polished it out to a mirror finish.. hope it lasts for a while haha  | ||

Breadbox, suitcase, whatever you want to call that giant hideous stock airbox, the X1 airbox is the only one not to hang from a tab on the mount. Mickey, I've got a stock mount off my '02 X1. The mount has exactly 6677 miles on it, but I replaced it with the NRHS piece during an engine rebuild. Let me know if you can't track down a brand new one and are interested in mine. G'day Mick. Busted my original mount so I forked out for an NRHS billet mount. A nice thing. Didn't stop me from breaking two more left bolts and taking a chunk out of the right hand side of the head (twice). Got it welded up again, helicoiled and new bolts (of course). Had faces machined to be flat again and got my man to machine both head and mount for dowels. I figured that the left bolt breaks when it loses tension and the weight of the motor sits on it. Tensile strength may be good but shear strength maybe not so great. If the bolt loosens then the dowel takes the weight, not the bolt. It's worked for me for some time now but I'm not calling it the ultimate solution...yet. Works for me.  | ||

If you can't afford The NRHS mount, you should look for an S2 or early S1 mount. They will bolt right up, already have the reinforcement across the bottom and the cutout for the isolator bolt, and do not have a breadbox arm on them. | ||

Thanks for the tip on the Old Style (s1,s2) Mount! Sounds like you had a string of bad luck! Discouraging to hear that after you purchased the NRHS piece you still had issues! Luckily I have put over 50k on my bike untill I had a problem but I just hope this does not snowball into a Re-occuring problem! How far does the dowell slide into the head (depth in say Millimeteres)? |
