Hi

I’ve just discovered and joined BadWeb.

I’m the proud owner of a Buell X1 with a bad looking back end.

So I’m looking for an unwanted or used Banke tail section for an X1.

The previous owner has removed the rear fender and trunk and made up a thin metal plate that runs the length of the rear sub-frame and is bolted to the bottom of the sub-frame, with about 6 holes drilled in the sub-frame! It’s not a great looking job and it runs the length of the sub-frame and therefore you can’t fit the rear hugger and the rear tyre rubs against the metal plate when the suspension is fully compressed.

The Banke Performance website still has on it the rear tail piece and license plate bracket but I've just found out from Banke that they don’t make anything for the tube framed Buells except for brake and shift pedals on special order!

I’ve seen the other options such as carbon fibre and the stock plastics but like the Banke one as it looks solid, good for storage of heavier items and an excellent replacement for what I’ve got now.

Other than the rear end it’s a great bike with some nice mods, eg forcewinder intake, V&H muffler, race ECM, flat bars, Corbin seat and host of other minor cosmetic mods including some of my own polishing work.

I’ll get my details up to date in the coming weeks.

Cheers

Welcome: Unfortunately,I don't have a Banke undertail section & I don't know where you could find one.
I would say don't buy a CF undertail from e-bay. They are expensive and lack the bracket necessary to secure the undertail to the bolts on the ECM plate. If you go the CF route try American sports Bike. They are a sponsor and their CF section is far superior to anything from e-bay. it's expensive but it works really well. I went with the CF undertail 'cause I couldn't find a Banke for love nor money. I looked for about 3 months here in the states. I carry a toolkit, waterproof trousers and a host of other things in mine. There is a lot of room. I've been riding my X1 about 7 months now and I love it!

E-bay, here on the Classified section for bike parts, and for the carbon fiber got to the American Sport bike. There was a fellow BWB who was selling the X1 tail section just recently, I don't know if it is sold yet. K

Thanks for the advice to date.

Are their any motorcycle salvage yards in the US (or as we call them in Aust - wreckers) that would be worth contacting/emailing to see if they've got one? Any names of potential salvage yards would be appreciated so I can broaden my search.

Thanks, but the M2 rear is different from the X1 and I've seen some pics of both kits on the Banke website so I know an M2 one won't fit.

I have a flat piece on the back of my bike bolted about the same way but it has never touched the tire.

Yes mine looks the same as that but my tyre does rub on it when suspension fully compressed, probably something to do with me being 6ft 3 110kgs and the very rough roads where I ride.

Still looking for a banke

Thanks Littlebuggles I tried your suggestion but no luck.

So I'm still looking and hoping (in vain?) to find a Banke otherwise I might have a go at making something.

Another option is the aftermarket short tail like on my X1.

VERY very nice, but I reckon I'll stick with the long tail I've got, as there's nice Corbin seat on top of it.

Have you checked to see if you have a functioning rear shock, and if the rear suspension has been lowered at all?

I've ridden *2-up* around a race track on my S2, in addition to rough public roads, and have never bottomed out the rear end...
